Game Start-up Error Fix "this application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way"

I know a lot of others have had this issue, and after 3 days I finally fixed it. I couldn't play HOI4 because of an error on start up, "this application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way" "please contact the application's support team for more information". I was able to fix this issue by opening up Windows Defender -> Virus & threat protection -> Virus & threat protection settings ->Allow an app through Controlled folder access -> Then select your HOI4.exe (usually under C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Hearts of Iron IV)

Awesome, thanks for the info. I had the same issue with Stellaris I remember. Game is running no problem now
