I suggest watching Mordred Vikings Italy Beginner Friendly run on youtube. You do not have to watch the whole series but at least the first 4-5 videos will get you squared away. Until you understand the U/I, how to move units, etc you will get crushed every time. This game has a steep learning curve and the in game tutorial is less than useless.

1. you need to build mil to make more stuff but if you keep building mils you run out of civilian factories and not be able to build anything so you need to build both types of factories.
2. you win wars by taking victory points which are cites that are labeld on the map and when the enemy hits under 20% victory points they cap and if all major powers are out on one side that side loses.
3. to move units form ports to ports you need to tell them to go to a port and than once they there click on the port you want to go to and they should sail there but it cost convoys to move them across seas so build convoys.
but to move to enemy lands it wont work and you need make a naval invasion order which is somthing new players struggle with for that you need to click on the units you want to use click on a your port you want to start the navel invasion than i think left click on the port you want to navel invade than send you ships out to sea and get 50% naval supremacy laying mines helps btw than start navel invasion and they do the naval invasion.
4. good countries to play are for majors i recommend german reich united kingdom and america.
some fun minor nations i recommend are mexico portugal brazil but the number one nation i recommend to play is Canada becouse
A the dlc for they focus tree is free now and will soon be in the base game.
B you homelands are far away form the action so you most likely wont get naval invaded coiuse the axis will be busy in africa and europe.
C you have commonwealth sharing mechanic meaning if some one in the british empire research somthing and you dont have it you research is faster
D your focus tree can give alot of recruit able pop meaning you can have high reserves
and last but not lest Canada is basicly the ultimate beginner friendly nation so play canada than maybe branch in to other nation once you finish you play tho if you win ww2 like maybe mexico or united kingdom than work up to the hard nations like Ethiopia and japan

People are recommending major nations to play, but i would suggest minor nations that can contribute to the war whilst staying relatively safe. Since the first 3 DLC are free, choose a british colony such as Canada or Australia, it can help getting used to the game while helping your allies win the war without needing to carry the war effort on your back.
If you want to be part of the Axis, choose something like Hungary, but that might be a bit harder than being part of the Allies.

It's difficult to learn, I've tried several times but then would take long breaks from the game only to find that it changed with new DLC.
Man the Guns DLC changed how navies are used and La Resistance changed how spying and some diplomacy worked.
I'm tempted to disable all the DLC that I have and try to learn the game from the basics then slowly see how each DLC changes the game and adapt to it.

Probably the best suggestion yet.

Try doing that and watching/reading a few good tutorials.
