Questions about using Ai to control units for me as a player
Hi everybody. I'm interested in playing a game where AI controls combat/battles. all units basically, and i focus on the big picture like research, diplomacy, managing my nation, building units and so on. However, i've heard that the AI is really bad at managing my units, especially ships and planes. I tried this in HoI III, and the AI was horrible, but i haven't really played HoI IV much and wondering if AI is better there, or if it wasn't originally, that patches have been made it better.

I'm thinking of playing fascist, expansionist USA, so i need a lot of ships because japan (and making the atlantic safer) and planes mostly from aircraft carriers. Those were useless in HoI III if i turned on AI for them.

if AI is really bad at that, i would have to consider playing a game where i micromanage my units. Could another option be that i control large groups like armies or down to division level and let the AI control anything below that, would that work?

On another note, how do i best turn USA into a fascist dictatorship? I tried that in Norway in HoI III, but it was really hard.

Im not quite sure how you make AI control your Troops while you manage everything else and i dont understand why you would do that.
Anyway AI sucks.
There is a mod called expert AI tho that might help

The reason why i want to do that is to try it out as more of a strategy game rather than a tactics game to see if it's fun. Thanks for the tip about the mod.

Expect AI does not help. It just make enemy AI to chose more meta choises during the game aka make it harder, but also more predictable.
What you ask is AI controlling player troops. In theory there could be mod for that, but i have newer heard that someone would have done that kind of mod in this game. You maybe would like more Victoria 3 or upcoming Milleania game where AI takes most combat away from the player.

If someone knows a mod that use game engine AI to move player troops, it would be interesting to know. But when some people even don`t use battle plans and micro most of the game. Not sure if that kind of mod would be popular, but it would be interesting one to test. It most likely would make game more balanced so that Enemies would not be so weak as they are now….

You can just use all battleplans and attach planes to armies. Navy is basically hands off once you assign fleets to regions.

But if you want the AI to literally make the plans and play like 50% of the game for you then that's just not hoi4.

Only way I can think of is switch to a different country, let the ai set up plans, then switch back and follow whatever the AI did?

As i mentioned i haven't really played HoI IV that much so i may be misinformed about something. In HoI III one had the options of handing over the players military to the computer. As a player, you could declare war on someone, and the computer would take control over the military and try to achieve your objectives. worked somewhat with land units, but planes and ships worked very badly or not at all.

I guess i may have made the assumption that HoI IV had that same option, but maybe it isn't the case.

Even if it is a feature, I'm not planning on playing games like that more than maybe one time as an experiment. Anyway, if people disapprove of that, i figure I've paid for the game and it's my choice how i wanna play it and how to spend/waste my time.
