Not sure, but in anyway you need the underwater suppuun project to be some before you can use underwater supply option.
Have to checkmit out myself, but my ques is that you then need to build supply submarines… that part is pure quessing. The new doc is still new…

It is underway replenishment, not underwater replenishment, lol. It is a secret project you can research that basically extends the range of your fleets by giving them a HUGE requirement for transports. It basically means a fleet has it only dedicated transports for getting supplies. I think a fleet of like 20-30 ships was something like 1000 transports (even with the reduction tech) it is based up fuel consumption of the fleet so later when you subs, carriers, and battleships go nuclear then you no longer need as many transports.

Depending upon what country you are playing and what naval MIOs you have it can be very handy.

Ran across this video this morning.

That is why there is no underwater underway replenishment :P
Thats interesting. I had some Idea about Japans supplied their bases this way but Germany attempt to use submarines also for supply already in WW1 is new for me - always thought it was purely inperfect weapon in those times.

Well technically we did see it in movies....Raiders of the Lost Ark the secret Nazi base was supplied by submarine.

It's not worth it for a game of regular duration, if at all.

It is more perfect for a short game than long game. Most early ships only have 3k range, which is very limited for countries which MIOs without any real range increases. Especially if you lack allies closer to naval invade from.

Long games and world domination tours it not so handy because you have allies or can wait it out for the longer range.

However, you also have to keep in mind the long long games with nuclear subs, carriers, and battleships it becomes useful. The nuclear have ranges of 10k, however the 1944 counterparts (heavy cruiser, light cruisers, etc still only have a 4500ish range.

All Naval MIOs with the exception of the dedicated sub ones can add +25% range at level 6.
Docking rights are pretty easy to get , especially between fascist countries.

Doesn't it take over a year to complete and two break throughs? Then there are two improvements to reduce the amount of convoys needed and the amount needed is considerably high. By the time the tech development and convoy production are done you should be powerful enough to invade a country or two between you and your intended target and extend your naval range to reach. When does a short game end?

For example Japan can already invade the US without it. Might be useful if Japan had to invade an independent Netherlands in an a-historical game, if it reaches .

"However, you also have to keep in mind the long long games with nuclear subs, carriers, and battleships it becomes useful."

Those long long games where you have those classes of ships are dragged out on purpose. Those ships types, as well as the majority of the special project techs, are content that 90% of players will not use 90% of the time. Underway replenishment might very well be the least useful of all new techs.

I as referring to the MIO that have a range bonus in the tree specifically. Some countries get ones with like 10-15% on top of the 25% everyone can get.

I also said naval invasion, which is something you cannot do from docking permissions unless the country you have permission with is in the same war.

Docking permissions extend naval range so you can have naval supremacy in the zones you need to cross for your invasion.

Most of the time you will have a puppet or ally in range, especially in a long long game. Underway replenishment is limited in its usefulness to a few niche instances.

but that was still ww2:)

But ye, I checked and even U-31 was able travel 16.000 km - so it indeed could travel to US and back- but I still think there was no submarine operation at US coast until ww2 "happy time".
