say im building standard trains then unlock armored trains. how do i upgrade the production line and save efficiency

what do you mean "upgrade the production line"? Like replace the now obsolete equipment with state of the art?

If you change what you're producing you're always going to lose efficiency, as you should

You always lose efficiency when you change the production line, going down dispersed industry and taking the last production tech (Flexible Line) does help reduce the penalty.

thanks, yes @admiral, thats what i mean. I know i will lose some efficiency, just want to make sure i do it right. is there a procedure? do i have to create an armored train line then delete the regular train line? or am i worried about nothing?

If you do that you'll lose ALL the efficiency

Just click on the image of the current train and you'll see a list of replacement models pop up to the right
