New Nuke Mechanics Are a Disaster – Who Thought This Was a Good Idea?
The new DLC has completely ruined the mechanics for nuclear bombs. Now you have to spend command power and wait 30 days to prepare a bombing raid. The chances of actually dropping a bomb are ridiculously low! Who thought this was a good idea?

Nukes were a fun late-game project, a way to end your campaign with some excitement. Now, they've taken all the fun out of it. By late 1943, I had 30 bombs but only managed to drop a few! You spend an absurd amount of time waiting for the raid to be ready, only for it to get intercepted half the time.

And the dumbest part? If your raid gets shot down and the bombing fails, you can’t target the same city for another year! Who came up with this nonsense? Seriously, point them out!

To be fair, previously nukes were the most dull mechanic in the game for how it turned the end-game into auto-win as you carpet nuke your way to victory without consequence, and you couldn't prevent it in any realistic fashion. First you just searched for the most loaded airports the enemy had, forced air supremacy in those zones, dropped nukes, killed 1-2k planes, rinse and repeat until enemy airforce was gone, and then carpet nuke the frontline until victory.

Truly an epic end to any campaign.

Not disagreeing the new mechanics are a bit over the top and too intensive to invest in, but let's not pretend like the old system was anything else but a cheap auto-win button.
New mechanics are great! Just plan ahead
I also agree that new system is improvement. Nuclear attack to Japan was long endeavor. So it suits to be in missions. Also nukes are not more powerful with some lasting effect, that is also good. Is it best possible way of doing nukes... most likely not, but I am quite happy how they are now in game. Old version felled like win more button that you can use as many times as you want. And that does not feel realistic. I personally hope that nukes should cause even bigger psychological effect. But this is a game so I can see why they did do it this way.

Using two bombers each time, which were not detected or challenged by either AA or interceptors. Just another absurd mechanic in a game filled with absurd mechanics.

How was that different than real life?
At least the new nukes are impactful and not spammy and meh unlike the old ones.

You need to put up air superiority still to increase the chance of success.

After trying out the new mechanic, I don't really use them much. If the territory is in range of my bombers I'm gonna take it before the debuff wears off.
Nukes are g-, I mean, lame.
Choose your way:
Tactical Bombers (only normal nukes): 30 Days to wait, 20 CP, ~75% success
Strategic Bombers (normal nukes + thermo nukes): 30 Days to wait, 20 CP, ~75% success
ICBMs: (normal nukes + thermo nukes): 14 Days to wait, 5 CP, ~90% success

By the time you do all the rocket and nuclear projects and research for ICBM, you can WC 2 or 3 times.
