Paradox launcher marked as virus.

So I've wanted to play Hoi4 but when I opened the launcher my antivirus activated and warned that it contained a virus. Now I can't even open the launcher meaning I can't play.

Yeah Avast marked it. I can't even play cities skylines which also has the paradox launcher.

You should be able to go into your antivirus and tell it that it's not a virus and let it go. I've had to do this to a game way way way long ago but I can't remember what game it was.

It's no longer popping up as a virus but now there's a bootstrapper error.

I have a file named IDP.Generic as virus from avast but Im trying to restore it and I can't even do that

oof... avast... how annoying... hope they fix it soon... tried adding the game files to exceptions and de-activating the various checks but it doesn't work anyway, so far...

Reinstalling didn't work this was the 3rd time I've uninstalled it and it didn't help.

Have you added Steam.exe or whatever it's called to your Avast exception file?

delete the launcher.

Go in the HOI4 directory inside your installation of Steam (Steam/steamapps/common/hearts of iron IV) and launch the game from hoi4.exe.
It's a temporary workaround but it works for me...

For those who didnt figure out a guy told me to do this. For me it was like this: In the sample directory of the launcher installer (...\steamapps\common\Hearts of Iron IV) two launchers were installed at the same time (launcher-v2.2020.15 u. launcher-v2.2020.16). I deleted the newest launcher (...-.16), then I could start the game. However it depends in my case it was in appdata the launcher installer so you need figure out where is it downloaded then delete the one from 16/12 or 17/12 depends which is most recent. Tell me if you have any problem still

Hi! I managed to solve the same problem! I removed the new launcher from 17.12.2020 and started the game. After that, the new launcher was downloaded automatically and everything worked.

There are some hidden files in your computer that need to be deleted, most likely. Go to PARADOX Support and it outlines the solution to correct the problem. I had to call DELL Tech Support to help me, as i'm not to confident yet with my knowledge of computers... Just follow the guidelines issued from PARADOX. That should do the trick.
