early game 5 light tank + 5 motorised w artillery & engineer support
mid game use medium tanks + mechanised plus two SPGs with armour recon, med flame tank, armoured engineers, self propelled heavy artillery & helo logistics.
MPs just use max cavalry then add motorbike MP later.
line holder basic infantry just take 20 width infantry + arty + aa + engineer support
As support
-Anti air by far the best avaible support, gives you all you ever need in piercing in single player, damages attacking planes a bit an reduces incoming damage. Only a few people knew it, but AA is king of support, even if the enemy does not use much aircraft.
- medium flame tank. design as cheap as it gets, 4 km/h is enough (design a second, faster one for tank divisons), interwar tank is eough. you can design it dirt cheap (under 4 prodction). They die in high numbers, but you can mass produce them like nothing. +10% attack on almost everything, and insane +40% against forts and +35% urban. These are the areas where you attacl struggles, this support solves this
-Engineers: also tons of modifiers. always helpful, good entrenchment. (Marines switch these for pioneers when they should do naval invasion)
- Rangers: also excellent modifiers, best avaible recon.
- as fifth one i usually start with artillery as long as my army has not enough to cover 3 Brigades in every division. If i have 2 brigades and start producing for the third one I remove it (except on mountaineers) and exchange it with logistics. Especially important if you fight in undeveloped terrain. ilke russia or china.
Mulitplayer is a different story, there signal company and armored recon is more important, but for single player that it is.
Götterdämmerung does not change much, IMO. In tank divs and other "offensive units" I exchange engineers for the new assault engineers. basically they get more offensive multiplicators but pay for it with negative defensive ones. (armored engineers on the other hand are useless - cost way too much)
Other than assault engineers only helicopter transports are really interesting. these are upgraded logistics that cost oil for the late game. You also use both for optimal performance in china, asia, desert etc.
