Turkey - Going Ottoman

Lots of people, including myself, were having issues with getting this focus to work. Here is the way I was able to figure it out:

1. Don't counter the fundamentalists.
2. Do the Kurdish-Traditionalist alliance when that pop-ups.
3. The multi-party election focus, when you finish it, pick the democrats, NOT the republicans.
4. Once you do this, the focus tree will change. Instead of "achieving Ataturk's dream" you get a different name, and eventually you get the Turkish civil war focus.
5. During this focus, you can invite the Ottoman loyalists back.

I'm unsure how many of these are absolutely required, but the picking the democrats is definitely absolutely essential.

Well yes, in the election you need to move away from Ataturk as his ideas were always to move away from the Ottoman styled empire. Not sure why that would be so dificult to understand.

As I recall the event itself also says that choosing to embrace Ataturks ideology would make it impossible to recall the sultans guard or some such.

you can go ottoman way regardless of ideological focuses you pick. ottoman way aka "pivot to the past focus" is on 2nd focus tree where you can pick ottoman way/ allies/ axis/ balkan pact/ mediterrian pact.

@CH13F, while you are correct that it is indeed on the 2nd line of focuses the Ottoman tree however is locked behind a pre-requisite.
You can't pick the Ottoman route without Ottoman officers returning, and wether they may return or not is determined by the election event.

That is the pivot point.

If you choose democrat with the DP then the focus tree changes to purge the kemalists.
If you choose republicans then the focus tree remains as shown.

rush ataturk stab bonus and .02 demo then complete the steps above, when you have 100pp, after the civil war starts, ban democracies to makeup for the bonus. now you have +5 stab instead of -5 stab.
