Locked into eternal war against Ethiopia who already capitulated
Seems like a bug, and then I looked it up on Google, and lo and behold: an old glitch from a time when the king of spades hadn't even become a knight yet.

Why is this mess not fixed?

This is a gaming convention created for this purpose. so that a bot or player in Ethiopia, after a specific focus (Upon joining the allies), could take focuses and develop until its territories are liberated as previously stated.

That is nonsense. They capitulated yet there is still a war? Nonsense.

It's a harsh reality))

It's not a glitch, if you take too long to capitulate them they will do a focus to be in exile (usually with the UK) and if you take even longer they will join the Allies.

Hoi4 is a pretty good game. But as always, yes, it is a harsh reality that Paradox has to spoil it by implementing total nonsense here and there.

If it is not a glitch it is even worse. If a country has capitulated and you occupied all of their land, they have no army. There is no war. But in Hoi4 it's somehow "We are at war" (explosive icon! kapow!)

At least I could sort of solve it with "annex ETH" console command.

Not a bug. You didn't manage to capitulate them quick enough, so they've formed government-in-exile.

Not a bug.

Which makes it even worse, as I told the other user. It's nonsensical, and apparantly designed to be so on purpose if the "not a bug" info is to be believed ( I believe you. Not the first time Paradox has done something extremely akward and strange to an otherwise incredibly well designed game. Huh. Maybe that explains the studio name...). Your country is not in a perpetual state of war when there is a de facto peace and no hostilities or combat actions.

The country has been defeated and its people, but the government is still at "war" with yours. Dumb i know.

The country leaders still continue war in UK so the war is not over. Not sure if it ends if you capture UK or does the covernment move to USA?

It was a historical possibility. This could happen even today still through international law.

No. You are not at a de facto war just because there is an exile government that you never made peace with. On paper it is a "war" state, but in reality and DE FACTO, there is absolutely no war at all. And it should NOT have the effects of a war state on your country just because this silly completely insignificant exile government is still "at war" with you.

If Paradox bothered to make this work well and get it a bit closer to how this work in real life that'd be great. But they don't, right?

A job half done is as good as none. And that's the problem with this particular feature of the game.
