Price hiked before sale
If you look at the price history on SteamDB (https://steamdb.info/app/394360/), you can see that the price was hiked shortly before sale started.

That is all.

classic paradox LOL

The price is the main reason I wont buy it despite having a load of fun on the free weekend.

I really do enjoy Hearts of Iron, but Hearts of Iron in particular has a reputation as a trap for your wallet due to the outragious price they charge if you want the full experience.

Under UK law the previous price should have been on offer for 28 days or it is considered a misleading price indication. Any UK purchaser could refer the matter to Trading Standards and try and get a refund.

The price was increased because three DLCs were added to the basegame which were worth about $50 to $60 without a sale, everyone already knows this and if you're this stingy about prices then there's a subscription for you to have access to everything for a month so you don't have to own it.

Otherwise fly a black flag if you care so much.

They just completely violated almost all marketing laws in their own home country, I think no legal system gives a ♥♥♥♥ at this point.

They have increased the base game price because the base game was augmented with the content of 3 DLC. And since those 3 DLC were pretty much in every “must buy” list around the internet, even that increase in price came out to the advantage of the consumer.

Those that already bought the game got them for free, those that didn’t went from having to pay 40 dollars for the base game + 15 dollars for Together for Victory + 10 dollars for Death or Dishonor + 20 dollars for Waking the Tiger (for a total of 85 dollars) to a total price of 50 dollars.
In fact, even ignoring the few days where those DLC were given out for free, and even accounting for the increase in price of the base game, Paradox gave new players a discount of 40%.

The 3 dlcs that were added too the game, were purchasable for 1,99-2,5 each outside of steam on serious sites sometimes even as little as 0,8 euros. anyone claiming that the price hike is "valid", is just a insane fanboi, gatekeeper, white washer or just a another employee in paradox marketing that uses steam accounts that they have bought on online sites for a few bux 'posting as real users on the steam forum'.

And the base game is available outside of steam for as little as 5.98 (as of now).
By your logic, anyone that claims there has been a price increase at all is insane.
The very suggestion that nobody could have a different opion from your own without being a shill or an employee at Paradox is ludicrous to say the least.

As always, the solution is extremely easy: if you don't like a product or the price of that product don't buy it.
For those that did like the product, did buy the game and had the smallest intention of buying those DLC (or even the base game itself) the change has been dramatically positive and that's it.

The only reason why Paradox is allowed to do what they did is because Steam is a US-based marketplace, where consumer laws are vastly inferior to European ones. If they tried to do it in Sweden or most of Europe, they would have been fined for violation of consumer regulations.

Either you are a simp for bad American laws or you are a cuck.

Care to quote, or even provide the actual law reference? Or are you just blowing your trumpet?

Because I know most people misquote the EU's Omnibus Bill from May 2022 as if it states businesses cannot increase the prices of their products

The Consumer Protection (Code of Practice for Traders on Price Indications) Approval Order 2005.

Note that is a code of practice which is why I said "should". There is nothing stopping price hikes but in making a price comparison against a pre-sale price they need to explain what the price was if it wasn't on sale at that outlet for 28 days prior.

Are people really whining about a sale now lol. Paradox should raise their prices and *never* put things on sale???

Base game before: $39.99
70% Sale: $11.99

Base game now (with 3 dlc included): $49.99
80% Sale: $9.99

Was 9.99 a year ago too but all the recent sales had it at 11.99.
