3 free dlc?

So when they made the first 3 dlc free for those couple of days one of my friends claimed two of them and forgot to claim the other one. But now that they are just in the main game now does that mean he owns it. And if that's the case why did they make those dlc free to claim when they just got added into the game anyway, was there even a point in claiming them?

Long story short, they're free to claim now, they'll be integrated into the main game at a later time.

The point was that if you started a game before they did put those DLC to main game... This las update would have made games without those DLC non compatible.
So only needed if you wanted to continue older game, in time of transition.
