I have a need to vent a little...

Sorry if this has been discussed already. This issue i'm having has happened several times and ruins countless hours I put into a game of HOI4. Lets just say I'm playing as either Russia or Germany and have spent a lot of time getting ready for war. Yes I have other countries in my faction but I rarely let them join in the fighting because they don't always have the capacity to wage war, and most annoyingly always seem to leave their seaports undefended!. So I figure it's best just too keep them neutral when the fighting starts, that way I don't have to worry too much about my borders or flanks. Hope that makes sense. Now let's say the fighting has just started and i'm being attacked, Suddenly another country not in my faction get attacked too, and out of nowhere I get a message stating they have accepted my offer to join the faction! And not only that they have invited all my other faction members to join in the war. Well there goes all my plans and not to mention all my borders and flanks are now vulnerable. There was never an offer to join my faction and as head of my faction (and a Dictator too) I should have the decision who joins, but more than once this scenario has occurred. So now that I have vented my frustration any suggestions how I can work around this problem? Thanks.

As far as I understand your post, they're ALREADY in your faction. So I'm not sure why you're complaining about them THEN joining your faction when you go to war.

If the faction you're fighting then declares on them then they're in the war with you, as you'd expect.

Vichy are in the Axis (I think) but they're not in the war until the Allies declare on them (and extend the area you're having to defend as you've described).

No, you didn't understand my post. I said "and out of nowhere I get a message stating they have accepted my offer to join the faction!" So no they are NOT already in my faction.

Yes I face this issue a lot as well, I keep defending my front line, suddenly a nation joins my factions, LIKE WHO THE FRICK INVITED YOU
and yes, this is a problem, but unfortunately nothing can be done about it, maybe in the new update they'll change this, but mostly this happens when a nation has relations to the MAJOR Nations AKA Germany (Hungary, Italy, Romanian Legion, Bulgaria and any fascist countries)
so the problem here, is that as the German Reich, you are like the leader of Fascism, just like how UK is a vacuum sucking nations into the Allies factions
Same with the Comintern with Communist Nations

this usually happens when World Tension is at 100 Percent, any nations that get declared on, even if they are Neutral

Thanks for understanding. I figured out a way to fix it using a console command. Specifically, Germany attacked Hungary about 2 weeks after attacking me (Russia). Strangely Hungary was about 15% fascist, 15% democratic, and 30% non-aligned. So why they would run and join My faction(Comintern) was weird. I went back and loaded a save game file just before Germany attacked Hungary but instead of playing as Russia I picked Hungary, used the console command "set_ruling_party f" So now Hungary is a fascist country. I saved, exited to menu, reloaded that file and went back to playing as Russia. When the play commenced Hungary instantly joined the Axis. So other than having to deal with another country that wants me dead, problem solved.

if you click the supply depots you can make them leave by removing their ability to take supplies.

if you dont turn every supply depot off btw they will run back to where they can get supply then return over and over.

also something i notice when i was messing with the usa if you make supply depots not just railway eventually you get supply kinda just sitting around i had americas supply up to like 800 i think with just america because i couldnt figure out how to actually end the great depression in a timely manner. you can make it a non issue by simply covering the front line and rando spots of railway you should be upgrading with supply depots with germany i havent made any supply depots and im at about 600 and i have north america canada to mexico uk and russia is split between me italy and vichy france same for africa.
