Worth a buy?
I noticed the game went on sale for $14.99, and the Steam page piqued my interest. The Starter Edition also looks pretty affordable, given that I get what appears to be 4 DLC's.

I'm a fan of strategy games, but I've never played one like HOI before, my experience coming from games like Civ V, which probably won't translate much into this one, though I'm willing to learn and enjoy something new.

Is this game worth buying at its asking price, should I get the Starter Pack? I've heard stuff about Paradox being infamous for selling a ton of DLC needed to "make the game fun."

Thanks!

Three DLCs were added to the basegame along with a price increase months ago so the starter pack isn't as good but it is cheaper.

But all you get is a "music pack" of old dead dudes talking and a cosmetic pack of Allied tanks (but the Axis one is not included), the only actual DLC is the navy focused one (along with extra content for USA and the UK) which is alright but overshadowed by No Step Back which is the Eastern Europe and tank designer focused one which is the best.

You get plenty of content without needing any DLCs, or you can get it all for $10 for a month if you get a subscription, otherwise you have unlimited content if you get mods.

This game is a lot of fun, easier to get into and way more action packed than the slow lag fest of Stellaris for example.
Thanks for the response, it seems I'll definitely be giving it a try, though I don't see myself ever paying a subscription to play a game, which is just a personal bias of mine.
I was looking through some of the mods on the Workshop and there's a neat looking Fallout mod.

The subscription is worth paying for a single month just to see what you like and select future purchases but isn't necessary, probably best to learn base game first and then give a whirl despite "personal bias" because there's an infinite variety of preferences amongst players and this means it's near impossible to gain a clear picture of Dlc.

Mod community is excellent (and can negate need/want for Dlc)

^Good advice above^

Beware it's a steep learning curve and for many of us also highly addictive, however by the time you hit 5000 hours the value in terms of hours per penny is phenomenal (let alone 10k+ hours)

The game is replayable on singleplayer and multiplay, with a big big big mod community. You can do almost anything and if not there is probobly a mod that will do it.

I would recommend this game to anyone who likes challanges or strategy games/history games.

yoo hit me up if you want someone to play with and show you the ropes. I'm down to play vanilla, but I have some of the dlcs and they share when you play multiplayer.
I'm up for that, Blind. Thanks for the offer.
