How many years will HOI4 span?
If starting in 1936, how far into the future will HOI4 allow me to play? Is there a terminal end date or will the game run into the 2000's, with the appropriate advances in weaponry and research, kind of like Supreme Ruler?

all techs you can research are viewable at start,and as you can see it’s a ww2 game with techs more or less from the time
you can continue the game after the supposed
END_DATE = "1949.1.1.1"
and unlock not time sensitive achievements

Thank you.

The base game effectively ends around 1942 in terms of focus trees and 1944ish in terms of tech. You can play as long as you like, and I've seen people go on runs until like 1980, but it gets very content-barren once focus trees start to run out of content. Mods tend to be much longer (Road to 56 goes until 1956ish for example).

Well you can build strategic jet bombers so I'd say the tech runs out around 1952. But theoretically you can go on as long as you want if you don't mind no tech advances and out of date focus trees.

it can go forever, but post 1946 you will struggle to find any unique content. there are a handful of mods you can use to extend the playtime though

Thanks again for all the responses. I bought HOI4, in the hopes it would replace Supreme Ruler Gold in the games I play. It adds a lot to the WWII era, but is lacking otherwise.

It's not so much that "content" runs out, it's that by ~'46 you've won and there's no challenge left.

Same as eu4/stellaris when you finally know out your big foe and the only thing left is "well I can color the world/galaxy i guess"

Should I try and make it to 2107?
Most of my games last into the 80s or 90s.

It's not true. Most of focus trees end around 1944-1495.

Longest I played in the base game was to 1960, but the actual content ended a long time ago in terms of research and focuses. This game is not really meant to be played past the 40s, the height is ww2 and thats it. But playing for that long wasn't really fun and due to AI having hundreds of divisions you will experience severe lag even on 5x speed. As far as I'm aware the game officially ends in 1949 but you can keep playing forever if you want.
