$20 for new dlc with 3 focus trees is insane.
Death and dishonour added more and is cheaper. Hope they re look at the prices and lower it.

Over £12 in the UK... definitely not good value when there is free workshop content for those countries. I'll wait for a sale.

They should actually charge far more.

That way I might stop myself buying the damn thing.

perhaps a little high but note other companies want to sell games for 100. while I think it should be cheaper since its just a focus tree not a major overhaul. if it stays this way might wait for sale.
This game is well over £100 now. It's not a triple A game. I remember buying the 'ultimate edition' of this game years ago, yet I still have to keep paying for DLC? What's 'ultimate edition' about that? Every other 'ultimate edition' game includes all DLC, even DLC's and expansions brought out after the fact. Paradox is just a slightly better EA. What's the difference between this game and the Sims?. EA releases an absolute barebones, skeletal and stripped version of the game, and you have to spend £100's to get the full game with all it's features and content so it's not barren. Paradox releases this game in a beta, unfinished state, and you have to pay £30+ a year (even when you've already bought the so called 'ultimate edition') each year - with the game still being incomplete, not thoroughly thought through and planned out, and still kinda barebones after all of it. What is the excuse and justification?

The cost of this expansion/DLC is more than the official living wage rate per hour in my country (the UK - a developed and wealthy country), before taxes and national insurance.

And that's not the point regardless.

Focus trees are not full price DLC content.

thats something ultra rude to say to a modder, even unintentionally.
Regardless, he is right

and yet people keep buying, Paradox enjoys a near monopoly on map painting games and it would be financially unwise not to crank up the price, especially if people will still end up paying for it. So what is Battle for the bosporus sold 1/3 less than other dlc it was also super cheap to make, hell I am surprised they havent taken a page out of the old bethesda playbook and tried to monotize mods yet. How about 3 mods per week unless you pay for a subscription?

I'm not involved in this conversation, but I'm glad you brought up Bethesda because the two share a core anti-consumer principle: Disdain for confirmed buyers. Bethesda figured out sooner than most companies that the people who love your game are NOT your target audience, because they will BUY IT ANYWAY. Instead, you cater to people who are on the fringe, for example people who looked at HoI3 and said "Yeah, this looks great, but it's not pretty enough and there's too much micro". HoI5 in turn will be marketed to people who looked at HoI4 and said the same thing. As for the DLCs, they can see that the percentage of people still playing, but who aren't buying new DLCs, has increased. By running surveys they can cheat a bit, and figure out which region is most profitable to overhaul with a low-effort content pack.

The only people playing dumb and pretending there's nothing wrong (aside from a few thousand die-hard identitarian Paradox fans) are either new to GSG or new to gaming, because this same scenario has played out countless times and the lesson was already learned: You simply cannot let any company believe that you will buy their products regardless of quality, because in every case it will compel them to reduce the quality to save time and cost.

"You simply cannot let any company believe that you will buy their products regardless of quality, because in every case it will compel them to reduce the quality to save time and cost." This!! Which is what these fifteen year old do not, or have yet to, understand and find out. Why argue against your own interests?

How can you call Paradox a scam while there are companies around like EA and Blizzard. You guys should buy Diablo 4 for 70 euros which has 0 content, or FIFA which hasn't changed in the last 10 years.
I bought this game on sale and when I want to play I buy the DLC subscription and then I cancel it. This game gave me more than 500 hours of fun for very little cost.

Nobody asked for your hours or cares, stop defending crap dlc just because you can get it on subscription

its an 8 year old game now and they cant even get the basics done ...
i just stoped to buy dlc at the point i realised that

in the past we atleast got some new mechanics for dlc, now they are down to selling some little pictures with some random numbers called focus trees

paradox has chosen a verry dangerous path if you ask me
ppl wont suport this for verry long

Just because those companies are also greedy, anti-consumer vultures doesn’t mean paradox also isn’t.

verry dangerously lucrative?

Paradox could make a Mickey Mouse DLC for HOI4 and sell it for $20, and guaranteed 90% of the fans would panic buy it within the first hour after release. The other 10% will get their Mickey Mouse buzz with the subscription. Paradox cannot lose same as Marvel movies will never fail no matter how bad they keep getting. We should be tearfully thankful we got the south america focus instead of mickey.

just check the reviews and review numbers of dlcs ... doesnt look too lucratiive
iam no specialist or something but i would guess they arent selling too much dlcs
and they are on the best way to destroy the hoi francise
Dragno Feb 1, 2024 @ 4:46pm
Also they somehow forgot Admiral Graf Spee. Still amazed.

Wait so is paradox making wildly popular DLC that 90% of fans insta-buy or is paradox in total freefall making garbage DLC that no one buys.
