RT56 is IMO much better than the base game because many countries have much more interresting focus trees, you have more stuff in the settings, more techs, one more land doctrine, more planes and probably other stuffs I don't remember.
Personnaly I do prefer the focus trees from the mod for many reasons :
Focus trees have better designs in a sense that they are shorter so more interresting to play instead of waiting for endless focus trees from DLCs to finish.
Many countries won't break free from their master for no reasons which happens quite a lot with focus trees from DLCs
They are more oriented on invasions and more factories instead of wasting time with a lot of mini interresting political highly scripted games.
I can found more reasons but that's also a question of tastes I guess. Personally, I prefer by far the general orientation of RT56 than the DLCs. But you will have to play quit a lot before to make your own choices
In summary, master vanilla as Germany. Then play around with the best mods. RT56 is one of the best, as is Old World Blues, and Equestria.
