I have 920 hours...
I have 920 hours and I have never owned a dlc, I hate the scheme Paradox plays with dlcs, like dlcs should just be updates mostly, mods are the only thing keeping this game playable for me.

1) Playing HOI IV without DLCs is like eating a Big Mac without beef paties, without special sauce, without cheese, without everything except just the bun--and the bun is without
sesame seeds.

I have ALL the DLCs. I have found great value in All the DLCs. The best parts of the game are via the various DLCs.

2) Do you people who complain about DLC's cost complain when the Doctor orders an MRI? Do you scream at the doctor, "I paid for the base visit with you; it's crazy I have to pay for an add on MRI."

When you go to the movies, do you tell the counter people ,"I paid for your over-priced movie tickets ... I demand the popcorn and root beer be free,"

Every business in the world has a business model and plan. Every business that stays in business needs to pay their employees, pay for equipment, pay to hire good people, and they need to make a profit in order to grow.

You people that complain about costs, you act like you want game producers to have non-qualified employees, broken down equipment, be in financial hell near bankruptcy ... and yet, you want the next version of the game to be amazing and to cost pennies or be free.

I GLADLY pay for the DLCs. Not only do I want the new stuff, but I am happy to support the company that designs the games I love. I WANT them to make money, I WANT them to hire highly qualified people and have top-shelf equipment and facilities. I want them to stay working at Paradox, not leave to go work for another company because Paradox can't afford to pay their employees.

The anger some of you people show toward game producers because you feel they should produce elite level games and give them away for free is amusing. It keeps me laughing.

I bought the game, I shouldn't expect to have to pay more to make the game actually fun, did you know, not everyone has upwards of $200 to pay for dlcs for a game, for all the dlcs in some of Paradox's games, they cost more than RDR2 Ultimate Edition, which is $100.

The difference is RDR2 doesn't lock things behind a paywall, its a well crafted game that has taken years, but what I get from HOI4 with no dlcs is a very bland game thats needs modding to play. Focus trees for countries I actually want to play with, are blocked with a paywall, and dont have any mods for them.

I like the subscription service, but the way they churn out dlcs instead of actual updates is way different from most game developers, and is very annoying, and it makes it feel like you are missing out on more, and encourages buying them. The DLCs would be fine if they weren't like the same amount of money as the game.

" The DLCs would be fine if they weren't like the same amount of money as the game."

A pizza hut chicken supreme stuffed crust pizza cost $18.00. Add in a drink and tip you are spending about $24.00.

When you buy a DLC, it stays with you FOREVER. When you buy a pizza or groceries, you will keep buying them over and over and over again.

Do you pay for Direct TV? Do you pay for cable? If you do, it is payment to them every month, month in, month out. Many game players play games more than they watch their cable TV and it cost a couple hundred $$$ for Direct TV or cable--every month.

Compare that cost for ONE MEAL to the cost of a DLC you pay for ONE TIME and have it for YEARS.

Don't reply to me with moans and groans about the cost of DLCs. The price of DLCs is WAY to low. DLCs should cost triple from what the current price is.

USA Bureau of Labor Statistics shows cereal went up 16.1% in 2022 alone. Dairy products went up 15.3%

Go back 3 years and look at the price increase over the last 3 years. The DLCs you moan and groan about seem to be at the same price now (or LOWER) than what they were 3 years ago.

I'm a practical person. I'm not wealthy. But, I am not one to complain to about game and DLC costs. The game producers price their products way too low from my perspective.

You use a bad example with that pizza, since it is related nothing to me, its a choice to the consumer just like buying the dlcs. You saying that they should triple cost of the dlcs is what is worrying me, since that could be upwards to $1000 for all the dlcs for some of their games, which is an unbelievable amount considering you can buy my whole library for even less, I should expect quality when I buy a game, considering base price of HOI4, I should be getting the full package or a little less, I can understand a few dlcs, but when dlc count gets up to be more than 5, and updates are ceased, and replaced with a paywall, thats a problem, not everyone is rich, not everyone wants to spend money on a game, people actually have things important to pay for, taxes, debts, those are more important than a game, Paradox is a greedy company, who just wants money, a considerabley more greedy company than a lot of other game companies.

what are these mythic mods that somehow make the game incredible? like half the big conversion mods are just more focus trees and 100 story popups, doesn't really change the core gameplay.

and confused on what an "actual update" is, paradox is pretty open about the DLC funding both the DLC *and* the big free updates that come at the same time

and just don't buy the DLC if you don't think it's worth it? just play red dead instead if you like that game better.

The DLC policy is perfectly fine. You are cheap. This game is not being still supported after 6 years, but also costs $40 to begin with, making HOI4 immediately a better value than 95% of AAA titles out in the same time frame. The DLCs come out annually and are on sale multiple times throughout the year for under $5. Many people, including me and you, drop Hundreds and Thousands of hours into this game, and Youre complaining because the game is like $100 total, WHEN NOT ON SALE?

How many AAA $60 games have you bought and dropped 980 hours into? Theres nothing wrong with HOI4 DLC policy..

An objective voice of sound reasoning among the hordes of far too many irrational complainers.

" not everyone is rich, not everyone wants to spend money on a game, people actually have things important to pay for"

yea, sure, "important things" to pay for like beer, smokes, pizza like in my example. The amount of money wasted away by all these complainers dwarfs the teeny bit of money that a DLC costs and that DLC is a ONE TIME LIFETIME PURCHASE -- the food, beer, smokes, etc. is an every day purchase event.

Everybody who is not a child and lives on their own is aware of the triple and quadruple price increases of food items, energy and other consumer items. The Reality is the cost of games and DLC is remarkably LOW, too low in my view, compared to everyday items that must be purchased every day that have Soared in price. Games and DLCs have not increased or have not increased at the same level as general inflation.
