What is 7/2?
I am kind of new to the game and I heard a lot of players talking about 7/2. What is it and is it still good?

7 infantry battalions 2 artillery battalions in your division template

7 infantry 2 artillery, it was the common "good" template before no step back, idk if it works but it was nerfed since then

It still works, to some degree. You'll get a small overstacking penalty for combat width but otherwise, it's still a cheap and reliable division.

The alternative is a 21 width (9 infantry, 1 artillery). Less soft attack, but better stats for everything else. It's cheaper as well, which might help if you're playing as an extremely small nation.

7/2 was the old meta of infantry division.
Unless stated otherwise if you just see two numbers like that, most commonly 7/2 and 14/4 as they were meta for years, it's referring to the number of infantry/artillery battalions in the division.

The 7/2 meta doesn't apply anymore though since terrain combat width was changed. These days a basic 9/0 works fine for defending and 9/3's are good for attacking as both 18w and 27w fit better universally than the old 20w meta does.

For me 9/1 or 21 width is the best choice. They have good org and are essentially the best for line infantry. They can be used to attack but generally aren't the greatest. I have found 9/3s aren't worth the cost for the amount of damage you are doing. That is just my opinion tho :)

9/1 is what you'd do if making a 'one size fits all' division for your entire army, but you really shouldn't be making just one template for your entire army if you can avoid it.

When you're making divisions specifically for attack/ defence like is intended then that's when more expensive divisions like 9/3's are what to make since you're only making a handful of divisions with that template not entire army groups and thus can afford the cost for the better stats. A motorised 9/3 does wonders for attacking, but you wouldn't even dream of trying to use it for your entire army.
