low fps problem
My laptop has 8gb ram and 2 gb nvidia geforce gt740m card and fps is about 20. So gta5 works properly with medium graphics . why hoi4 dont?

The game isn't graphical intensive at all and really depends on your CPU clock speed since the AI calculations are single threaded.

Is there any way to improve performance? I'm having lags constantly even though my Laptop has high stats. (GTX 970M, i7-6700HQ)

Not really - You're running into overheating, which makes everything slow down to avoid crashing the hardware.

atm the game runs like crap in most PCs and notebooks after certain period of time, lets hope they can fix this, the problem isnt your notebook, its the game.
Mansen Jul 6, 2016 @ 5:37am
What an ignorant assumption to make. No - The game doesn't just suddenly slow down over time. What happens is that as more and more countries raise their armies, the game has to control more things at the same time, which slows down the experience.

This happens in any game with a growth over time formula.

And yes - If you're on a laptop of any kind, your most likely cause of slowdowns is thermal throttling, because the hardware can't keep running at max for sustained amounts of time.
Doberstein Jul 6, 2016 @ 5:45am
I know it does not suddently slow down, it slows down because minors with 2 states have 120 completely useless divisions, the majors build stupid and meaningless divisions, the AI is just crap at division building, they spam and spam and spam, the deploy early with like 20% of the equipament.

I'm sorry dude, I dont mean to bash the game, I really love HOI 4, but the game runs like crap after 1945. If the problem is that because of the AI has altogheter 2500 useless divisions, it needs fixing.

Thanks for your replies. However, I even get fps drops very early on. Whenever selecting units or a random location on the map I get like 1-20fps for a few seconds. I tried a lot to fix that (gsync on/off; vsync on/off; task manager priority; lowest settings) but nothing seemed to work. Hope they come up with sth.

So what now, we have to rent some NASA computer station to run this game with no trouble ?
Half year after the release and this problem is still here. I have i7 cpu 4790, Gforce 1060 GS, 2 x SSD, 16 GB RAM, modular psu 1000 w etc etc .... and game runs like crap still. FPS drops down to 13 and I have tried to turn off all graphic settings to low just for testing purposes. Was also monitoring cpu and gpu temperatures ... nothing, all is well and low. Nothing worked out ... game is just not well optimized period. One more of those titles "we didn't finish the game yet but hey, lets put it on sale for losers to buy it and we might fix everything over time". So how many patches so far and this crucial issue is not fixed ? Sorry Paradox guys but you won't get my money anymore in the future.

Holy gravedigger, Batman!

I can assure you one does not require a, as you put it, NASA computer station to run this game with no trouble. Bearing in mind trouble in this instance should mean actual, you know, trouble. Like game-breaking bugs or system crashes. It should not mean your whiny attitude towards any game that doesn't run at MAXIMUM POWER WITH 9000 FPS AND 10K RES!!!111 on your source-cheap rig.

Thanks for providing me with my lunch-time amusement though.

I do not expect 9000 fps on my rig but at least 30 would be nice and that is not a too much of an expectation. So please, if you have idea how to accomplish that since you are so smart, share with the rest of the community so that we can finally play this game after 1943. Thank you

The more defensive the more 'lag'. The best optimization possible it's to reduce the amount of forces under AI control. This can be achieved by playing aggresively. After all... this game depicts the biggest world conflict. Don't be afraid to expand and to control as many countries as possible. I should include that making puppets or playing with factions would work against optimization. The best it's to play alone, no faction, no allieds, and simply annex every new country. You will get a great, noticeable optimization.
