I can understand that there is a publisher´s concern about forbidden imagery in germany.
the result of this region lock is such as you can not buy from vendors outside paradox/steam.
so no 20% off coupon from greenmangaming or the often cheaper prices in the UK.
thanx paradox, but this is the first HOI i might not buy.

according to you nothing.
i do buy games, but i am used to look for the best offers.
a region lock is blocking me from doing so and i am not happy about it.

The problem with Steam is Valve loves to screw people over hard, by not taking into account the value of every major currency. To Valve 50€ is 50$. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. 50€ is 55$. The higher the demand is for that currency, the bigger its value.

The only "semi"-DRM to get it right is GOG.

It's not about buying games on Steam, it's about getting a fair price.

Hey I'm sorry, but I don't buy 40-60$ games automatically I wait for them to go on sale to buy them!
I just made an exception to HoI 4 because I waited close to a year to buy it!

There is nothing preventing you from using discounts on other sites. You will still receive a German version of the game however (if you are buying it from Germany).

- What exactly is meant with the German version?
- The German version lacks a certain DLC component which results in the following:
1) a bunch of prominent nazis is displayed as dark silhouettes instead of a colored portrait.
2) some speeches in events are different
3) SS generals have no skulls on their caps
4) event pictures with hitler and stuff from point 1 are different

Just to be clear, the german version lacks only some images and specific sound files, nothing else? Modding images and soundfiles does not change the checksum?

The polish dlc is also available for the german version and the game gets all in the future released expansions? And with all I mean really everything.

Every has an ID. If you live in Germany and buy a game on Steam from another, that game's ID will have to match the ID of the german version. If it doesn't it won't work at all.
