Playing as a south american country

Whats the best nation to play as if I wish to be aggressive and conquer my neighbors before the US can intervene?

You can attack guaranteed countries as long as your also guaranteed by the same country, This is why south america can attack each other. But america does have a late focus that lets them intervene

Brazil is very slow to march through. I would say countries like Bolivia and Venezuela which are close to Panama.Then you can conquer it without the americas panama channel and march north. And attack west. And invade rich with minerals Cuba.

My first try was with brazil. By the time I was able to switch to fascist and declare war on my neighbor america already had the ability to intervene and declare war on me, destroyed my fleet and did a naval invasion, I had my ports guarded but I didnt have enough troops guarding yet so they rolled over me.

I would like to take over all of south america as quickly as I can and then head north and conquer the US

My favorite is Venezula, but that was such a dang challenge. I achieved united South America under the Brazil regime fairly easy....Argentina was the only hiccup.

I am still trying to invade the US as Mexico....

brazil is best becuase of your high population
oil doesnt matter too much becuase youll be fighting in jungles which are bad for tanks(but still have some)

Brazil, by far. Venezuela starts off fascist, but their best chance for early expansion is to take on Colombia, and they're about on-par with Venezuela. As Brazil, you have a number of nearby small countries that you can wipe out and use to gain more factories.

I did Argentina today.. Conquered Uruguay, Chile, Bolivia, and Peru as Cominterm with Russia. The US made a threat at me on Bolivia, but I said bring it, and gave the Soviet Union control of my most northern state just in case.. They never did.

Either way, I only got to end the game with 30% of those countries?? Despite my having built up their infrastructure, covering the entire coastline with forts etc...

^^Is this just because the US guarantees them?? I get robbed of all my hard work?

Disclaimer: I'm not entirely sure this is how it works but since you were in comintern, your overall contribution to the war, according to the ai, was probably not high enough for you to demand all the states you wanted.

Venezuela starts Fascist. Hell, they usually join Axis when AI controlled, unless the US intervenes first via focus. I go Venezuela, and take out smaller coutnries to surround Brazil, then take them out. Then I join the Axis and attack the Panama Canal and tie down US troops in a South America fight, allowing the Japanese to win in China/Southeast Asia and the Germans to focus on the USSR.
