I did a quick playthrough trying to bring the fascists in power in Russia... didnt do the purge, boosted fascism until civil war arrived and I got the Russian Empire mostly in the South. There was nothing about Trosky or the purges up to a year after the start of the civil war

I've heard once or twice, while searching for an answer, that he's simply a console command away but nobody ever bloody well mentions the command. Also, something about doing or not doing the purge by September of 1938 and refusing to get rid of anyone supposedly is the best way. So far, I've never seen anything ingame about Trotsky aside from assassination events. Not once have I seen the "4th International" event.

I'd like to know this too, as it would give a bit more historical flavour to my "World Revolution" attempts. Plus, it's funny to annoy the ghost of Stalin.

I just had the 4th International event but was playing as Sweden. It did mention something about Stalin ordering more killings and that there would be little resistance because of earlier purges of Trotskyites.

I did the purge in 1939, nothing about the 4th international before or after.

I FOUND IT! In another discussion, someone said the console command "event soviet.28" makes Trotsky the head of the USSR and starts a civil war. I've just tried it out and it works. Although not legitimte, it is a way at all at least.

Haha well played sir, and anyway, Stalin would have been proud with your ruthless gaming of the system to get the desired result, legitimate or not.

I jsut started fresh game to test this. I did nothing at all (nothing = nothing). At september 1938 fired event about possible civil war where one possibility was to call Trotsky. Month later Trotsykist coup happen that made Trotsky purge and replace Stalin with him, while started civil war with Russia led by Ivan Konev (lol..)

Tbh I see not any benefit over Purge (it Purge simialr number of generals and politicians and you get same penalty) and Trotsky himself has negative traits (less political power gain and longer time for war goal)

His Political power penalty is largely offsided by his -30% to the cost of subversive activities which if you go the NKVD route( another -50%) it makes Soviet Proxy wars a real possibility if you want to grow the comintern. It makes something like encouraging a coup unbelievably fast and inexpensive, so I have used it to overthrow the fascist states in Romania, Bulgaria and I'm currently working on Yugoslavia. You just need to have enough military factories to export the revolution's weapons and supplies comrade, perhaps a few professional revolutionaries too!

The war justification is offsided by the fact that by 1940 the world tension should still allow you to justify a war with about +10%, and for the Soviets you can get some of the most important justifactions by doing standard national focuses. Besides having proxy states and allies in the comintern is almost preferable to constant forceful expansion, as it lets you have mixed priority between civilian and military industrialization.

I love this game and that everyone can amke his own way. But tbh Soviets dont need allies (well US helps but thats kinda game-breaking and lazy) - they need conquer to maximize their industry. Also I see as disadvantage have 2-year penalty from purge starting at late 38 instead half of 36... But I dont played that game, is there some interesting event related to civil war and victory in that?

I've noticed that with Trotsky as long as you use decent manuevering in the civil war that you can get the "Talented Officers" event several times in rapid succession, I had the event take place in November 1938 and was without penalty by September 1939 even though the spirit technically was still in play. Also his purge only lasts about a year and 9 months instead of 4.

Also, as long as you focus on electrical and industrial research and still annex Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, and Bessarabia and try to have 60 civilian factories as Stalin by the time Trotsky is around you can just pump out military factories in land, and by then if you tech right you'll be able to have fresh factories building new weapons to adjust to the new weaponry penalty.
