I never seem to be able to get above regular and Japan sent me expeditionary forces that included some seasoned and veteran divisions. How do I get them?

not easily - generaly they need fight without much losses becuase manpower replenish lower their XP. In my game usualy only right used heavy armored units are viable for this and getting higher ranks, infantr yhae too larg loses. ALso dont forget put field hospital to all templates you use - it helpw both with saving manpower and xp loss as well.

Probably your forces are taking too many casualties to level up. If you give your divisions a field hospital support company then long-term casualties will be significantly reduced which'll let your divisions maintain and grow their experience easier.

You can use exercises to get you troops to Regular, from there they need combat experience. But even with combat experience if a unit takes high casualties the replacements will drag down the level again. You need to put your troops into the fight, but suffer few enough losses that they can advance to the higher experiences. Don't push them too hard, make sure you've got enough troops to cycle units in and out of the battle so as to minimize the losses of any particular unit.

Casualties aren't the issue. In my conquest of the Italian faction I caused well over 500k casualties and took less than 50k. Still no units at seasoned or veteran.

I dont know exact formula but simply like that na casuality make xp los and I almsot never go over regular status with frontline units no matter how superior they are to enemy and how lower losses they have (all time there are some)

But I usualy has very high ranks with some specialized armored units (usualy since they re volunteers in early wars they got rank or two over regualr status often and they keep it alte ron too)

Oh, almost forgot - units get xp loss every time you modify the template (like adding support unit) and I am not sure about replacing equipment with new models.

I found out that you lose a lot of XP for changing division templates but it was totally worth it.

Do seasoned and veteran units stay 'seasoned' and being 'veterans'?
Emperor Penguin Jun 24, 2016 @ 6:35pm
Nope. My regulars went down to trained.

Changing templates is part of the game, but the better use of XP still is to make better tanks.

for infantry i would say it is very hard to get veteran units, unless you defend an easily defensible position behind river, mountains and if you can afford land forts, but the enemy might be hesitant to attack those, for long periods. E.g. I got several veterans as china defending along the northern border

I would just reccomend making space marine units for infantry, give them as much positive terrain modifiers you can, giving them field hospitals, have them hang out on a line behind the front line to keep them for when you find a very good opening to attack, go for locations you can get encirclements. You should get veterans going. Also there are doctrines that help with veterancy, but I don't think it has much of an impact unless you are looking to min max.

Units on offense will rarely gain veteran status by clicking the green arrow. Use them only on an encirclement and places where enemy has no supply. Then you will get some but slowly.
The fastest, is on defense with good supply, hospitals, and lots of reinforcements. Air support is important to not be bombarded. Having some armor in the infantry divisions helps a lot.

Although I am aware this post is over 8 years old, the trick is for them to gain experience faster than they lose it so just get them to defend. Attacking incurs high casualties so your experience will always drop unless the defenders are rubbish.
