Maybe, is there a way to not have a civil war or to only launch the fourth international and not have Trotsky take over first? Also, is the civil war against stalin or imperialists?

During that event, Stalin dies, Civil war is forced uppon you(in the codes of the event).
and some new guy Ivan Konev leads that civil war. so i would think its, Leon against imperialists. as stalin dies during the coup.

In the civil war does an eastern part of the USSR become Russia? Because that happened but Stalin was in power.

there is another event in the event list for USSR

soviet.48

where you get a choice,
1 will lead to a major civil war.
the other to a minor war when Leon returns

the even discription itself has a referance to the fourth international in it.
could be that you mean that one.

the area above iran(and some neighbors) turns against you.

make a save before you trigger the events.
if they are not the once you mean, you can always revert to the earlier save you made(unless its a iron-man game).
but in that case, just start a new game in 1936 and trigger one of the events in 1936, and see which one it is for you.

i think it is news.173, I haven't tested this but on the events folder it is the one that triggers the SOV_fourth_international_fired that allows for those events that are described above

I don't get what you are actually trying to achieve. What happens basicly depends on if you did the Great purge at all, and what exactly was done in it.
