It seems to operate on flimsy - either they go to autopositions or they dont. How does it work? Same for the defensive hold. I domnt get it, how does it work?

You pick a general for lets say 20 divisions.

Then you click in draw a frontline, you draw the frontline, then you draw offensive lines going in to enemy territory.

After you have declared war you can click the little arrow above the avatar of your general, and the divisions who are under command of this specific general will start going after the plan/strategy you have just created.

No no i mean you know how there is a frontline positioning? Ai positions 1-3 troops on each cell automatically. How is that determined? Cause i cant get it to work consistently

select the units you want to asigne to the front/defence hold Ctrl and left click on the order to asign them to it, and they will spread out as evenly as possible (ish). sometimes the units tend to stack up however, and I am not sure how to fix that, but they still spread out.

At some zoom levels, some units sometimes seem to be clumped up or in the wrong places, but if you zoom in a bit they will be seen where they really are.
