After I'd slogged all through the UK, Iceland, Greenland, Nfld and into N.America proper. had a great front from Ontario down into N.York...then the Ruskies landed, took about three zones and that's all they could hold.

This actually looks pretty clean.
i know as soon as you go to war with anyone they just a faction. i was going to declare war on greese but before i did italy did (not in the axis) then greese asked to join me. so i let them then of all countrys italy joins the allies. how does that work?
if you are not in a faction when you go to war agenst someone they will not join a faction, but if you are in a faction when you decleare war, the will join one too as defence.
Ai sure is beyond retarded in this game lol. And yes, i hate how declaring war just to take one country results in the target joining a faction and then suddenly i must fight everyone in that stupid faction. War never ends this way since ultimately you end up having to conquer everyone
paradox pls.
I don't understand your problem? Italy winds up at war with a giant faction and seeks powerful allies of their own so joins another faction for protection. How does that not make sense?
As for the OP, the faction war system is specifically designed to simulate WWII. The germans didn't get to annex poland after they took it. They didn't get to annex france after they took it. They had to continue fighting the war until the rest of Poland and France's allies gave up. This is exactly the same as other PDX games (you can't end the war and annex Savoie if you're still at war with France). The major powers of the faction you're at war with help supply and incite rebellion in your occupied territories. Until those faction leaders are delt with, you'll have problems in the occupied territories, similar to historical Polish, French, Soviet, and Yugoslavian partisan movements.
Its just that one you get this whole AXIS, Allies, Soviot Union thing snowballing allong.
Countries rarely surrender, but they capitulate.
meaning that they give up their homelands(for now) but will come back with allies(axis, ussr, allies). to take it back.
World tention has to do with how quickly countries join another faction. as much as what type of goverment etc.
But thats all de-railing it from the OP.
faction system should be fixed, is nothing else but true.
Right, forgot to give some context for why it's a mess.
From a post I made on the Paradox forums:
I was playing as Turkey and somehow Italy grabbed a bunch of land on my border, including a bunch that I fought for and occupied on my own. I wasn't even in the war alongside the Axis! I was in my own war against the Soviets, because I wanted to take things without having the AI pull this crap on me. That's not the worst part, though. The worst part is that the land Italy took doesn't even have a port on the bit bordering the Black Sea. Italy cannot even reach its own spoils from the war without going through either my territory, Germany's territory, or building a port so it can actually transfer troops over. Oh, and that Russian Empire? That's a puppet of...Nationalist Spain. They used all of their warscore to make a puppet out of a bunch of arctic wasteland so far away from their own borders that to get troops over to it, they'll either have to cross two oceans or cross all of Europe and Asia.
