Annexing vs Occupation.
Question for those in the know, I'm playing as Integralist Fascist Brazil, I've just annexed most of south America, then upon invading Peru the American's went all World police-y and I've now joined the German Reich faction and am now part of the world war.
shortly after this Peru falls but instead of annexing the country I'm now just occupying them.
Why is that? I'm not familiar enough with the mechanics.
thanks!

That is because they joined a faction as well! (probably allies I suppose). If they are already in a faction then there will be no peace-conference even if you beat that country until you beat the whole faction!

They go into exile so to say and hope that their fellow allies will free them again! Only nations that aren't in any faction yet can be annexed due to a peace-treaty. Alternatively you have to destroy the whole faction to "annex" them!

Before the war with the whole faction ends they will always be only "occupied"

Hope that helped!

You can choose/demand annexation at end of war during peace conference. As you in part of world war now, even your local war merged with that and you need to wait until end of war.

once a nation is in a faction, you will only be able to occupy them till all members of that faction has fallen

I conquered Luxembourg when they WERENT in a faction. But it still counts as occupied territory. why did this happen (they werent in any point in the game affiliated with any faction.)

You can create your own thread instead of raising a 2 year old post from the dead.

To answer your question though, they had an ally who guaranteed them and went to war with you when you declared war. They don't necessarily have to be in a faction to join a war against a common enemy.

Have fun working your way through northern south america, central america, mexico and the USA to win the war. Your allies will be utterly incapable of defeating the US... probably even the UK and usually they can't even beat the Soviets.
