CPU HEAT ~ MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013) ~ 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5
(Running on Intel IGPU)

I didn't expect an easy ride running this game, I'm not wet behind the ears with PC gaming but my CPU heats up like a Turkey at Xmas along with my fan sounding like a Jet engine within 2 minutes of starting/loading a game. It get's REALLY HOT & LOUD.
I've never had it this bad before (I play Age of Wonders 3, Sins Rebellion, Torchlight 2, HOI3).

I have tried everything;
-Lowered all settings/Resolution/Windowed,
-Turned off day/night cycle
-3D models etc

I tried to limit the FPS after the first pacth but it says unknow command when I enter console;
"max_fram_rate_25"

Any help would be appreciated Gentlemen.

Thanks, Ronbo

I'm 99,9% sure you need to change the framerate limit in the settings.txt file, not the console.

Mansen I can't thank you enough! I set my refresh rate to 30 & now my laptop has been silent for the past half and hour.

I still have all settings to low & in late 1936 with Italy. I'll post again on this thread for any readers interested in following.

Thank you Mansen! Time to invade Romania :)

Game is GPU hungry thats for sure.. the load on my 970 goes through the roof but it hardly touches my i7 5829 :(

Have you tried adjusting the "refresh rate" in the settings.txt?
That helped me a lot bud & I don't even have a GPU. I set mine to 30.

Also the weather/day & night cycle really rapes CPU/GPU's. My friend turn those off & it seemed to really help his computer with performance.

Hi Ronbo!
Using macbook pro retina 13 inch as well. I set the "refreshRate" = 30 but it reverts back to 60 after I start the game. Any idea why?

Update: I changed the "maxrefreshrate" = 30 and no noise yet! Awesome! Thanks!

Hi guys! I'm on a macbook pro too and been trying to get it to run.

Having the same problem as Goose On Fire with "refreshRate" reverting back to 60 after I start the game. Also tried adding "maxrefreshrate" to my settings.txt but it just disappears when I start the game.

Would really appreciate any help! Thanks!

Hi, it's not 'refresh rate' but rather 'max refresh rate' that requires changing. Also you don't need to add anything to the text file, just change the sum.

Use spotlight to locate the settings file, "settings.txt Hearts of Iron IV" Change the max refresh rate to 30 and save, so it should look like this,

refreshRate=60
max_refresh_rate=30

Ah okay, I think I got confused. Thanks, that helped a lot!
