Japan Question - Take Dutch Pacific Holdings 1936/7?
Hi all,

Just wondering if somebody tried this? The thinking was if Japan attempts to take the Dutch rubber & oil richer pacific holdings as early as possible (1936 or 1937) that my avoid having the Britich & French ally with them. If so they should be easy to take and provide Japan with all the resources she could want. Then Japan is free to focus on china etc.

Anybody tried this?

Haven't tried that but I did flip the Netherlands into fascists as Germany and added them to the Axis for long term access to their resources by trade.

A different approach is to appease USA, UK and France and invade all the little warlords BEFORE the main Republic of China, so they dont unite.. Then you have ALL of china (except Tibet, Xinjiang, Mongolia, Macao and Hong Kong) to help with factories, all while keeping trade with USA for things you lack

You just figured out the natural starting move for Player controlled Japan, Newster. I can confirm it is very easy to take the Dutch colonies right away, since they haven't yet joined the allies.

Your only annoyance will be that you can't actually win the war until Germany invites you to the Axis and attacks Mainland Netherlands - But that's a minor annoyance at best.

For bonus points, puppet China and save yourself a long, drawn out war - that way you can annex all of the minor China powers and focus on India or Russia (Or the US if you're into mass naval combat)

If you wardec portugal, england, italy or france, you can slowly expand your naval range by taking colonies with ports on the african coast to the point where you can land in amsterdam 8)

My suggestion is portugal, on the grounds its less likely to get a war overlap with mr hitler and his rights to take stuff in your war just because he got warscore points for suiciding 800k men against the maginot line in a seperate war that happened to include one of your participants.

Oh you can do that of course - It's just a lot of work when you'd probably rather focus on your local area first. And expanding the war to other countries will inevitably raise the world tension - which you might prefer to keep low to allow for Germany to get a better start.

High world tension early on can seriously mess with the Fascist faction's strength. :)

Screw Hitler, he's my main score rival in a world where allies lose WW2 :)

Thanks all for the feedback! Not being able to "win the war" is indeed a bit of an annoyance but managable. I think the massive amounts of rubber & oil (without having to sacrefice factory space for trade) is indeed worth it.

So plan is to take on the Dutch colonies first, then puppet mainland china while conquering all the other chinese factions.

On the bright side, at least you get to use the rubber resource when you've occupied them. :)
