what are the benefits of exporting
as i am aware there is no currency so does it automatically buy what you are lacking in freeing up your factories but what if you have excess to export ??

You get 1 civilian factory per 8 units of exports. Civilian factories = money.

If your building mil. factories, but you are not running current mil. factories at 100% efficiency, then you are doing it wrong. Always import what you need.

So here's the thing with exporting. Basically every 8 of a resource you export can be bought by another country, giving you a civilian factory for as long as the importer buys the resource. All the resources that aren't bought by other countries are basically destroyed, and you can't buy any resources from your own exports. Also having a more export heavy oriented economy gives you a boots to research time, production speed and construction speed.

This makes it very viable for a country with a low industerial basis, but a high amount of resources(like say the Netherlands who are swimming in rubber) to switch to free trade, to get that industerial boost and maybe even get more civilian factories from the resources you don't need right now. It's probably even worth it for them if you then have to use civilian factories to import resources.
