How to create a puppet state?

Can we create a puppet state from conquered territory?

if i remember, click on your flag and it should show all the territory you occupy, there is a section for colonies and puppets, you can manipulate a conquered country to be a puppet or annex it

Yeah I saw that I could release a nation which liberates them completely, but no option to release as a puppet.

Fight for you, trade with you. Causes less World Tension than full annexation.

Actually they just give the ressources to you for free, but you have to ask them and supply the convoys :)

How can you release puppet states? I'm currently playing as Japan and want to release China, because its another human player.

Click on the your flag at the top left to go to the government screen. Should be a "manage occupied areas" button at the bottom where you can choose to release any countries you happen to control.

I don't think creating a puppet outside of World War II is possible.

UGH I cant find any option anywhere to puppet, is it even possible in Hearts of Iron IV?

You can ONLY puppet nations from a peace confrence, releasing nations from the occupation window WILL NOT make them a puppet, the game needs an option to either release them as a puppet or to play as them directly like in Vic2.
