Staging a Coup
Curious on when is the optimal time to push this button. Im playing a Germany and have the UK at 34% fascist and the US at 42%. Also what exactly happens from a game mechanics point of view. Cant find much info and Im on ironman.

Edit - Also there are elections coming up soon for both of these countries will this have any effect on the coup

Peace

Well you want to stage a coup before they get to 50% support of a faction, because once they get more than half of the support they will automatically switch to that type of government. This might seem nice, until you realize if you are at war with say the US and you turn them facist through supporting the facist party in the US they will still be at war with you. I'm not sure if it's a bug or working as intended, but it's kinda funny being Nazi Germany fighting against a Fascist US.

So I would say probably around 45% popularity is the best time to start the coup. If you stage a coup basically a civil war will break out, like Fascist Spain and Democratic Spain near the start.

I tried to stage a coup in the US with around 42% party popularity, and only 2 states revolted.. New York and Ohio, needless to say against the rest of the whole country even with me sending a couple SS divisions in support we lost pretty badly.

As seen on the France Co op stream:
-You start a coup attempt : the game registers the % popularity of your ideology at this point.
- you spend equipment and PP to prepare the coup
- the coup triggers with the initial popularity

From the political event files, when any ideology reach 50% :
- country must decide to switch to new ideology or suffer "revolutionaries" modifier for 365 days
- if support reach 70% while revolutionary modifier is active, Civil War triggers automatically.

This can be much quicker for any country that use the "ideologue" idea (special events + faster drift)

so the best time to begin to stage your coup is at around 49% popularity?

A bit less - A coup takes time to organize from the moment you start it.

I also tried to stage a coup in the US, the revolt had quite a bit of land but had about 6 division in total (with weirdly over 70 ships). Very underwhelming to be honest, not sure anyone knows how to make the civil war much more effective?
i was invading the us trough canada
was a bit of stalemate
then i got them a coup in southern us so it was a war on 2 fronts for them
got me to push them back deep in usa a little nuke on washington and hey the axis won the war :)

Not to be that guy, but don't you mean Nationalist Spain and Republican Spain? The Republicans weren't really democratic :P just communist.

but you can stop boosting popularity whilst the coup is being developed which would leave it at roughly 49% if its not a country that holds regular elections

True.

What you can do is save up your political points to boost the popularity of the party of your liking (Conservative for me), then stage a coup after the party you’re supporting gets to a certain level of popularity. That’s what I did.

One thing to note though is don’t make the same mistake that real life Bush did where you try doing so with two countries at the same time (e.g: Iraq & Afghanistan). You won’t have enough political points to go around.

Be prepared, when there is a Civil War, to send volunteers and Lend Lease to the rebels or they'll get their teeth kicked in 9/10 times.
