Assign new divisions to established army

Will someone please tell me how to add an unassigned division to an already created army. For example, I created a new infantry division. How the the hell to I add it to Army "A" and its already established general. In HOI 3 there was a merge option. I don't see anything like that in the new layout. It's annoooyyyiinnnggg....

Select the division(s) wish to add and right click the army picture at the bottom of the screen.

you can also Merge armies like that. click one army (which selects every division in it), right click the other... it does come up with a warning in case it wasn't what you were trying to do though, as that's pretty drastic.

Is there a way to make the new divisions automatically get the same orders?

Example, I have an army with a front line established. When I add divisions to the army the say "no orders assigned". I would like the units to atomically move to the front line without me having to go into the division assignment mode.

Hold CTRL, left click the order instead. This also merges the armies.

If you mean from the production menu, select the army with the small circle.

Ah ok. I just thought it was strange that I told a unit to join a army but still complained it had no orders.

It's because one army can have separate orders - which the game admittedly doesn't show very well. So when you simply add units to an army, it hasn't been assigned any of the orders that army has. :)

Is there a tutorial somewhere on how to assign parts of an army different orders? And what about having 2 armies with the same orders?

Your armies will merge if they share the same order.

I have the same problem as madcow and its driving me nuts, cant assign unassigned divisions, but the solution given above doesnt work; so i get the you have unassigned divisions message, select an unassigned division, right click on an army generals picture - and nothing happens. When I go back to the message the same divisions are listed as unassigned and if I select the army I was trying to assign to it doesn't list the new division. Am I missing something here ?

To assign divisions to an order you need to select the division then left click on the applicable order (attack arrows or front line) . To assign them to an army without specifying an order you right click on the army (note that assigning them to an army with defend orders will automatically assign them the defend order). Make sure you are assigning them to an army commander and not the army group.

Thanks for the help Bri -, but when I do this the divisions I am trying to assign are still listed as unassigned in the message box and the total number of divisions listed under the generals picture doesnt change ? I've unpaused the game to check that it's not a fdelay thing

Are you assigning divisions to an army or an army group? Perhaps you have someone as an army group leader which case I think it will reject because the divisions need to be an army first. Army Group leaders I think have slightly bigger pictures and tend to be to the left side of the picture queue. The other thing I would check is if you are selecting them from the unit outline try selecting them from the game map instead.

If you're selecting things from the outline sometimes that requires you to old left shift or something when selecting units else it actually deselects on next click. I remember doing things from the outline recently and was having issues myself, took me awhile to realize what was happening because it was counter to the "normal" clicks in the game that one tends to do from the game map.

"FOUR YEAR OLD THREAD" yet like 5 dlcs later the battle planner and unit selection controls are still a piece of ♥♥♥♥ a quarter of the time even for veteran players, and in the case of the battle planner near 100% for most players.
