How do I use Paratroopers?
Im playing as Fascist Argentina and I've fully annexed most of South American, now I'm invading the Caribbean so I thought I would try using paratroopers. I have a an air base a LOT of transport planes along with full air superiority but when I set a paradrop location nothing happens. So far I've just been nuking Puerto Rico as an alternative.

Produce some transport planes, place them in an airport near the target area so its got coverage. Now just like marines you need to click the paradrop button, select the airport with the transports and then select then target area (if its in range). They then automatically appear in the target area.

I'm having trouble too. I've got 20 transport planes and 10 paratroopers in the same island. When i click the parachute button i click the island for my starting province but I don't have any avaliable areas to drop at! What gives? What am I missing?

Thanks in advance.

Tooltip is wrong. Very annoying. Search paradrop on HOI4 wiki for details on mechanics and it's easy.

Also I think it's not enough to have the paratroopers standing on the friendly airfield to get things started. You have to have the transport planes in that same airfield AND the planes must be assigned to the airzone where the planned drop will happen.

is it possible to increase the range of the transportplanes? Or is 1K all it can do?

1K is as far as they can go. Can probably be set up so you can create variants of transport planes, though.

Create a new air wing the same way you would for fighters,(Click an air field and then click the button that has a plus sign with an airplane next to it.) and scroll down in the list of planes you can add to the air wing until you see your five transports.

I'm quite sure I did some paradrops with the airwing of transport planes just sitting in the base , not being assigned to any air zones.

Note to OP : like Marines, they Paratroopers will quickly find themselves out of supply, so be sure that they can capture a port quickly.

edit: ooops, necro

You don´t. Paratroopers suck. Compared to mountaineers and marines... and even in Russia you are better off using fast motorized to get bridgeheads.

I fail to see a real use for them other than roleplaying.

By 10 paratroopers, do you mean 10 divisions or 10 battalions (the rectangles inside the division template)? I think the number of transport planes required is related to the number of battlions but not the number of divisions. I couldn't paradrop 10 divisions each of which has 8 battalions using 7x transport planes. And they don't tell you if you don't have enough planes.....

I've got it figured I think, you have to have your paratroopers at an airbase, with transports allocated to the airspace of that airfield. If you don't have enough transports you have to reallocate the transports from the airspace of the drop-zone back to the airzone of the base where the paras are located

Paratroopers Rock! how the hell else are you suppose to take england as a land locked minor nation? Land 20 divisons of paratroopers. Got a stalemate front? Land some airborne behind the lines to cause mayhem and cut off reinforcements.
