Woah, all the bad reviews?
I honestly don't understand the complaints to be honest. I will say this is my first HOI game (although I'm not new to Paradox games), and I'm really enjoying it.

The only complaint that I'm reading about in the reviews that make any sense to me are AI complaints. But the A seems really good to me.

Maybe I'm getting lucky or something, but in my game as both Italy and the US the AI has been surprisingly good. Sucessful naval invasions, a very strong axis kicking USSR's ass, and good use of bombers and fighters.

So, why is everyone complaining?

Bandwagon. People start seeing them and listening to other people's complaints then they too start becoming negative.

Plus people compare it to HoI 3 due to nostalgic feelings for the game, not remembering what HoI 3 was exactly when that monstrosity released.

They expect something perfect on launch etc and just as good as their fully modded/patched HoI 3 thats been out for years upon years.

And frankly... People just like to complain. It seems to make them happier.

It's not COMPLEX enough apparently.

They have had seven years to learn from their mistakes. So I don't think it's valid to excuse them for making the same mistake all over again.

Given the poor launch of Hearts of Iron III, they should of focused enough on launch to provide a solid launch. But nope.

Anyway with time this should be good. Can't wait until Black Ice is released for it.

Though a lot of the complexity is just the fact that the ui isnt you know completely terrible.

Lol. I think that's a bad excuse that some of the reviews make. Coming from EU4 and CK2, its definetely complex. Maybe not AS complex as HOI3, but sometimes streamlined is better.

How was this launch bad? The AI is good, few bugs... What's honestly bad about the launch?

I didn't like HOI III. Never got into it, didn't like the interface and all the irrelevant micro.
HOI IV was a gamble for me. To buy or not to buy. I did it.

Long story short: I played 18hrs non stop (I'm not proud of this... it just...happened).

Honestly, this game is a 9/10.
Some issues with AI, war and constant annoying alerts about things that don't really matter (naval battles for example).

Besides that, this game is a master piece.

I agree as well so far. I *accidentally* stayed up all night playing it yesterday. Which I haven't done with any game in recent memory. It's also rewarding to feel like i'm getting better as well.

Well good on you. Just enjoy it and let the "pros" complain.

It sort of reminds me of that South Park "Yelp" episode. Steam Reviewers love to be professional game critics.

I've seen a lot of usability problems (more than these, actually).

And I guess multiplayer actually does desync or error out. At least we got an error quite early in our first USA-Japan alliance game. And then odd bugs happened, like my army not accepting my drawing of an offensive line on the map, and units not responding. Saving and loading fixed the problems that were obvious, but it then again errored out not too much later. I didn't mind *that* much, but who I played with at the time went to sleep in frustration.

Arguably, this launch was definitely better than the one of HOI3 either way. Single player was stable enough for me and the AI did some useful and interesting things, plus I felt mostly in control of my units, despite the somewhat clunky nature of that control. That's more than could be said about HOI3.

This game's only good if you haven't played hoi3 or 2.

That's as specific as you can get? Sounds like a nostalgia issue to me. Your post is about as vague as it gets.
