Anyway good luck.
Hoi3 was absolute garbage when it got released compared to its final stand. ( TFH 4.02 ).
Now, to the complexity; Ive never understood why people say hoi3 is complex?
Need some patience, thats it.
And in my opinion, as objective as i can speak, Hoi4 is a good game.
Sure, the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ is annoying... if ure in a war with bunch of nations, you see ♥♥♥♥. The Airfights are a big MEH.. even though i have to say after i played like 10 hour of my japanese campaign .. love the Flying ace stuff. That is really awesome. Besides, i dislike the fact i cant bomb / patrol a province like i could in hoi3, e.g. a city or so. I miss that. If they would add that again that would be really perfect. The industry however.. yea... needs some tweaks. Its good(?) i guess... but it is really weird. Doesnt fit in a hoi game so if they change a bit of it itll be fine i think.
TL;DR: Hoi4 is Hoi4 - a good game and worth the money, a good follower to Hoi3. It needs some changes here and there, maybe a dlc or two.
AND I NEED THE ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ COUNTERS! YES THE SQUARES.
Hoi 3 but magically better. I love hoi 3, especially BI mod, but the only thing hoi 3 has is better land combat. Although I despise air zones it's so much less micro for air which can have more of an effect, the Naval combat is also a lot easier and useful. The Royal Navy actually does a bit more than chill in India and Africa. At first I was sorta pissed when I saw they dumbed down some things but I feel like 90% of the features in hoi 3 were near useless and the Ai would troll you with them (looking at you espionage). Though I will still play 3 from time to time I have to give the devs credit for changing the game to be more than just a land war with Russia simulator.
thanks
Let me tell you a story about micromanagement and land combat and land war with Russia simulator. I played a game on very hard as USA; chilled a bit killed the japanese and landed in Europe, fighting against the Soviets. The USSR had 500 (!) Divisions!! I could only break through his lines when the first nukes dropped in moscow cutting of his supply and when my super heavy tanks arrived, the entire battle went 4 years or longer. ( no end date 48 )... entire campaign took 50 hours microing the eastern front... lol
This i will miss in hoi4 kind of.. but there are other things intense ;)
And yes we need counters :)
I liked the air micro tho. Wish they would add that back.. my personal preference.
Ill also play hoi3 from time to time. Legend never dies.
Standardized symbols (usually NATO) used on tactical maps to represent military units. They are used in classic wargames both PC and tabletop and the hardcore wargame guys love them over the animated sprites.
Hahaha makes me feel old knowing that there was a time when every wargame was a cardboard map and "counters". You can turn of 3D units and go back to NATO standard units in settings. :)
Need to clear things up. Yes you have NATO Symbols but not on "counters" but on these weird paradox counters. Need back the square counters ;)
I'm not that old but I am old enough to have played all the old Atomic Games (V for Victory series etc) back when they were new on 3.5 disks.
Yeah I'm talking about before PC's. Anyone up for a game of Tactics? Tactics 2? :)
But at least V for Victory had counters. I cound never get them to run properly though.....
This. Im overrunning Russia on my first playthrough with absolute no problem. Exposed necks of deep advances. No air support, though I am paying attention to supply. It's ridiculous. In HOI3 a joyride got punished.
I think there are many good ideas in HOI4, but while HOI3 at least resembled a grand strategy game, this is the console version.
They overdid the Army simplfication, the diplo is a joke (turning Europe fascist in a few years at negligble cost) and either the production AI or the war AI still needs some serious work.
OTOH the production/variant system is good and at least the naval invasion part is now working properly.
No. The only ww2 board game I could ever stand is Axis and Allies. I've tried a few others but they tend to bog down in the details at the expense of the fun.
