Overview of Edition Differences?
Maybe I'm just blind, but I am missing a kind of overview of which edition includes which features... I mean: Cadet Edition, Colonel Edition Post-Release (DE), Colonel Edition, Cadet Edition Post-Release (DE), Field Marshal Edition...

I found sth on the web comparing cadet, colonel and marshal; but nothing about Post-Release / non-Post-Release... What's the difference?

I would also love to know... afaik from another thread there seems to be the option of buying the uncensored version on steam (the non DE)

I hope that its possible to get the uncut version in Germany, because the cut drove me awy from playing the game, but still I am waiting for more responses.

Would be nice if someone could clarify who bought the game in Germany.

Go to the store page, scroll down a bit and look for a "Read More" button. That expands the images showing the editions.

And no - It isn't possible to get the non-censored version in Germany or Austria without using VPNs and such. Blame your countries - push for reform, because the rest of the world can't.

Hey Mansen... there was a discussion about this in a lot of Threads and so on, also with Lawyers and Judges participating... We as "normal" german citicens are not allowed to fight the censorship decission at a court. It can only be done by the foreign companies... so in this case Paradox would have to get to a german court with this... the funny thing about it: Every lawyer said, that they would win, because the law is considered unnecessary for Videogames today but still active and no one has fought it for over 30 years.

I'd love a link. As a Danish citizen I'll be happy to admit I'm not quite up to scratch with German law practice. It does sound a bit silly that it has to be everyone BUT the German people to take a stand against some... well can we agree somewhat silly censorship rules?

I'd be on board if it was a game that glorified Nazi Germany, but it isn't. And movies tend to get away with it because they use the "it's art" line as an excuse.

I am not aware if you understand german, but here is an one day old article from a big german gamingsite and magazine which had an interview with an lawyer. Thats one of my sources:

http://www.gamestar.de/spiele/hearts-of-iron-4/artikel/verkaufsverbote_in_deutschland,50515,3273534.html

btw. it also contains a statement to the "Films are art and games are not" discussion... thats also a mistaken thing... there is just no decission about it from any court that says games are or arent art... this could also be solved by a court very easily.

Cheers. I know someone who can translate the important parts. I'm afraid I picked English over German back in primary school. :)

You can buy uncensored versions at foreign legal key resellers on the internet
and use a VPN to unlock it. Like Imperialgames.com or greenmangaming.com

(You fake your current location in the world while unlocking and go back to play it when its done decrypting.) Warning! I do not know if the game 're-locks' itself if you decide to 'return' back to german internet. I don't think so though.

Note: Valve officially does not condone this method as it goes against their terms of service. But I seriously doubt if they ever even look at these things. And I still seriously disagree with that nonsense. If I was a frequent traveler between time zones and unlock my game while I am using Russian wifi.. would i get banned when I return home in Holland? Ofcourse not, that would be ridiculous. But let's be real.. they have better things to do then worry about something this insignificant. The lawsuit is more expensive then the harm done.

As far as I know, steam does not care where you live. Only when you buy in their shop games are automatically region locked. And you are never banned for owning a legally bought game even if you buy it elsewhere!!! And I doubt the German government will fine you for owning a game without censorship on nazi symbols.... If they do, they should spend their time on useful things. Valve and Paradox also have more things on their mind. And law suits are very expensive and provide unwanted attention.

------

Liberty only goes so far it seems... Censorship on symbols is so terribly outdated and backwards. As if seeing a swastika turns you into a nazi-lover... or a communist if you see a hammer and sickle. And even if you do have these questionable sympathies, they can't do anything against you unless you engange in unlawful activities. Die gedanken sind frei! Especially in a modern democracy.

In time this ridiculous practice will be repealed. I don't see governments forbidding catholic crosses or other symbols used by questionable people nowadays. Alot of these 'symbols' were used in wars that ended in genocides and complete and systematic eradication of villages, other faiths and even whole cultures in Europe centuries ago. Nobody cares anymore.

It doesn't matter where you get the key as much as it does if you are in a censored country when you activate it on steam.
You can buy the uncensored version here on steam even in germany.

After some reading it seems that all versions are the same, but it automatically censors stuff in particular countries...

Ridiculous.

I'd love a citation.

Ridiculous.

Certain symbols and leader portraits have been changed for German censorship. That's it. Everything else is the same (Which means you can play MP with Germans just fine)

I am German and I live in Germany. Still I own the normal uncensored version which I bought before here on steam.

Care to share a screenshot of Herr Hitler?

And if you used a VPN to activate it, you're obviously bypassing the restriction anyway.
No VPN needed.
Just watch the other thread.
