Factory slots in states

Hi, people,

I was wondering if anyone could help me understand the factory slots in states a bit better. If I'm playing a small poor nation with a, let's say 3 factories in a state (1 military / 2 civ) and I choose a focus where upon completion I should get a military factory, it says "no available factory slots" or something similar in red text (even though the focus says is should also provide 1 factory slot).

Does this mean theres a cap at factory slots at a certain state, even though the state-view itself shows multiple locked factory slots?
for clarity, when building a factory, the map shows 3/3 factories in a certain state, but there's multiple locked slots... Can I unlock factory slots by improving the infrastructure to a certain point?

Well there is a certain amount of open slots for each province which is different, but I believe that infrastructure unlocks more slots for buildings in those with few slots...though I am not sure

you unlock more factory slots by researching upgrades in the industry section in investigation

hmm.. now it actually works, or maybe I just didn't realize it earlier. Once completing industrial foci I actually now got free slots too!

I think it's bugged. I completed industrial foci as USSR e and the same message of "no available factory slots" was there. The USSR has a lot ot factory slots available. I think it's broken and needs a patch.

The national focus gives you slots *and* factories. So if you already have max factories in a state, you will gain more slots but also more factories, so it will continue to be maxed out.

So if you start at 8 total slots, and the national focus provides you with 2 per province, you'll now see it maxed out at 10 slots.

But my state showed 1 free slot at one point, and still I got the red message claiming I lack a free factory slot. But anyway, it seemed to work fine.

As mentioned, the national focus factories are free and don't take up existing slots. And to unlock more slots in each province, you'll want the (de)centralized factory techs in the tech tree.
