How to edit save game?

Same as previous games? Unzip with Winzip/Rar and edit with a plaintext editor (notepad++)

change save_as_binary=yes to save_as_binary=no ( in \Documents\Paradox Interactive\Hearts of Iron IV\settings.txt ) !!
and resave !! and open save file!!.

It works but if I change anything it will refuse to load and say that it's from a different version :(

Exactly, it wont load the Game when u edit it. I got no idea how to fix that. I tried to start 1935, but when i edit the start date, the savegame is broken.

Actually there's a way... if you edit your save in single player, then even if you get the "save is from the other version", you will be able to click on continue, regardless of the black flag showing on the icon. It will load your modified save with Germany, then all you need to do is save it again, and you have a working edited save. Didnt found solution for MP saves, but I'm working on in. ;)

Windows note pad wont work. Use Notepad++ (I used 64 bit, all file types but maybe other versions will work too)
Had to do it for Spain disbanding post civil war scrub units.
