Don't be Afraid to Try Out NATO Counters
Hi! My name is T and I am currently working to help show newer and intermediate HOI4 players tips and tricks to help them get better at the game.

For this I would like to share with you a cool mod that let's you use NATO symbols for your HOI4 counters. I do not understand all of the symbols but I lay out the ground rules and help you get to using them on your own.

Regarding NATO counters I also found this video interesting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YgLU5ncAE9M

That one is interesting in that it's kind of a back-dated version of NATO counters, since NATO didn't exist during WW2 and there were several kinds of units that were never used after it - such as tank destroyers and assault guns - that didn't have counters made for them.

I find it easier to read and identify "gamey" icons than NATO counters.

I thought so too. Then I learned more about natos and found them more descriptive.

Eh, NATO counters work great for something like Wargame, where you have lots of NATO-era units, but for WW2 I'm pretty ambivalent.

Nato did not exist in WW2, so pointless

[December 19, 1944], HQ Twelfth Army Group situation map.

NATO - APP-6(C) - JOINT MILITARY SYMBOLOGY, are simply standarized and adapted to modern times. But simpler symbols were used a lot of time ago, of course WWII included.

And in fact, toy soldiers are more apt for toy games or RTS games.

NATO symbols are not stupid at all, they make real sense in real life and also in good wargames or simulators, as HoI4 advertisement said: "Authentic real-time war simulation", but HoI4 now turned into RTS toy game. Æthelwulf be careful qualifying people... indeed they are not suitable for lazy people or even re-tarded.

I made a mod that should make using NATO counters even easier.

I prefer to leave Nato counters off so as to be able to tell the differances between my division types. When I've been in dire straits i've often made 'light' or 'militia' type divisions that are understrength or come with poor equipment. Nato counters do not represent this.
