Road to 56 still the king
So I understand why so many people don't like it, the UI alone was enough to deter me for quite a while. It has some good elements and great story telling, but it's mostly clicking menus and reading, not wargaming. (Part of the reason I have far more hours in KR/RT56)
However, I would say that some parts of TNO are iconic and should be seen. The Slave Revolt/GO4 Democracy path stands out and is what I'd recommend people play. For a mod literally full of dread and a constance sense of impending doom there's a surprising source of hope and a future.
Speak for yourself only, please. Some people do, in fact, like to roleplay in HoI IV every then and when.
As I said, it's not a mod for everyone. It's not just reading, it's about story telling, which I think the mod does fairly well. It's a direct statement about the failures of the Nazis and how they were doomed to fail, even with the potential for catastrophic loss of human life.
Germany has a civil war once Hitler dies and there are 4 pathes Germany can take which are each direct criticisms of Nazis/HOI4/etc. Literally the only way Germany has a real future is if Speer wins and pivots away from the very things that defined Nazi Germany. Everything else ends in eventual self-collapse or nuclear warfare.
I'll also add the USA has some good content. It's a bit buggy (I haven't played in a long time) but I've heard it's good.
