Why vanilla is so bad?
Hoi has the most repetitive and boring gameplay in vanilla version in all Paradox games series except Victoria 2. It's been already mentioned that there's no sense in buying game with no dlc, but still Hoi4 is damn empty and boring while playing in vanilla edition. There're no spy and diplomacy options we can have with some optional mods and dlcs, and the only thing to do is to spam units and skip time. ( I don't even say about non-free vehicle skins that add no actual content)
I don't wanna say it's very bad, but why should i pay 50$ + for things that must be in base game edition? Hoi3 and Eu games are worth playing with no dlc at all ( at least for first 50h)

If you own all the DLC, sure vanilla is pretty bland. If you're starting out new, however, I think vanilla is a good place to do so. There's plenty to learn, and even though you describe the gameplay as repetetive (which is pretty much a historical run) there's dozens of hours of gameplay right there.

IMHO the value for money this game offers is amazing, if I compare the price tag with the hours played in my steam library HOI4 leads the pack by quite a bit.

Because most games without mods are? And yes, i consider Vanilla to be with ALL DLC, as thats the only proper way to play a paradox game. If you complaint about the costs, use the Paradox game pass.... seriously they added that for a REASON ya know? 5 bucks a month or so and you "own" all DLC of that game. Not just that but gradualy, if you keep using the pass and pay for it, you get to actualy own those DLC if you hit the pricing of it (so i could go the low cost version with the newest DLC so i get it basicaly for less cost overall... sounds actualy smart..)

That out the way, when you think its bland and boring your playing HOI wrong.... When i play i have plenty to do all the time. The only time when i start repeating stuff is when i actualy have 50% of the globe conquered. Then ofc. i have to much ress at my disposal to be rivaled by ANYTHING safe US and UDSSR combined (and one of them is gone by that stage already soooo the other is no foe realy safe i ♥♥♥♥ up, wich is rare). You can limit yourself all you want at that stage your just to OP anyway. Thats also why you ONLY should play through WW2 and not further behind it, its not made for that.

I'm playing the game since one month and I've got no DLC, only the basegame. And I like this game, it is really fascinating.

the game, for me, is repetitive and boring with all DLCs, depends on what you enjoy, I'm not a fan of alternate history (which is the main focus of the game with each new dlc), so replaying ww2 eventually bore me, part of it because the ai does not put areal challenge.

have you tried non historic mode. Problem is after a few games, you kinda know ww2 history.

sales? you can buy a pretty good edition on g2a for cheap, or instant gaming as well. Not everyone is stupid who only looks on steam.

Outside of the focus trees the DLC give very little. The only thing that really sucks not having is land-lease, which shouldn't cost $15 to have. Spy mechanics are just annoying imo, only good thing about them is collaborations. Tank/Ship designer is nice but it's just a menu and some icons, it's not worth $20 for either.

You can safely play the majority of mods without DLC, which're so much better than the vanilla game. Kaiserreich(or Kaiserredux), Old World Blues, The New Order and Cold War: Iron Curtain are some of the best imo.

I have almost 1500 hours in Hoi4 and I only have 2 DLCs. It's fun with mods.

a lot of the big mods are just pop up fests anyway

I agree. I tried out the game in vanilla and I thought it was great and now looking back and watching vanilla videos, it was horrible lol
