No Step Back - Glorification of the Soviet Union?
While I would say the Russian people as much as anyone should be honored for their sacrifices during WW2, I can't help but feel the art and tone of the "No Step Back" glorifies the Soviet Union and Stalin (an oppressive government as nasty as the nazis).

It seems even more tone deaf given contemporary issues of liberty, democracy, and ethics.

There may be a good time for an expansion like this, but maybe this isn't the right time.

yeah, but it's a soviet focused dlc?

Indeed, but my point is that it may not seem very "playful" to many; especially true since it's not simply historical like other "great powers".
Instead of being just the Soviet Union like normal you can now make civil wars and put a monarchy or democracy or fascist government in charge instead of just the Soviet Union.

'Glorification of the soviet union'???

Maybe you missed this-- "I can't help but feel the ART and TONE of the "No Step Back" glorifies the Soviet Union and Stalin".

I didn't write that everything in the DLC was focused on just that.

Look at the paradox marketing material and tell me I'm wrong.

Maybe leave the political garbage on Twitter and remember this is a game.
This is a game about WW2. There is no way to leave out the Russians just because they were nasty.
What's next, leave out the Germans because they did some horrible ♥♥♥♥ during the war?

Might be best to wait and see after it is released.

The trailer and the like are picked to get noticed so a bit of shock effect may be intentional exaggeration.
The trailer seems to, but as far as I know their trailers are from the perspective of the given countries they do. Meaning propaganda can be everywhere. The dlc is a Soviet Union themed expansion. For the most part, nothing seems wrong about it. In the actual expansion Stalin has a 'paranoia' meter in the game when he starts to purge people. Generals have a 'cowed by stalin' negative debuff if they were saved from the chopping block. The in game stuff really doesn't seem too glorifying.

As I stated, this isn't just a historical issue. This is a right now issue.

The nazis as a regime are dead and gone, but you still will not see a single swastika in this game or many others.

I wouldn't suggest leaving the Soviet Union out, but I also wouldn't go releasing a DLC *at this moment in time* that glorifies soviet tyrannical oppression.

Facts. But the thing is they won so glorifying Communists is quite woke and acceptable. Despite their murderous resume.

Dude it's a ww2 sandbox game. Can we leave politics and current events out of it plz. Without Russian sacrifices we may have lost the war. They were a big meat shield.

No. We're not at Wendy's. Wendy's is where paradox pays more attention. This is Mcdonald's.

If you don’t want to release the DLC, then don’t. Who’s asking you to?

As for the sermon, save it for church. Or twitter.. We are all ready to fight the great patriotic war for the fatherland. And if in the meantime we bring totalitarianism to the world as we crush the running dogs of capitalism that’s all fine and dandy.

If you’re shocked by this, definitely do not play Stellaris. Or axis and allies. Or chess for that matter, which I imagine you consider a glorification of monarchal dictatorship.

This reminds me of the Monty python skit. “I’m being oppressed!”

Dude, I hate Real life soviet union for what it did to my country, BUT this is a game and papa stalin will rule you!
