I do not think it is "regular" performance drop due numebr of calcualtions, but imho soemthing corrupts instantly - liek fro me the game speed was not gradualy coming down but more like from 90% to 1% - and exactly as you write, work fine for brief moment after game load, but than it is there again - almost like game pause.
Update to my prior post. Literally tried to just launch the f.u.c.k.i.n.g game a second ago, and it won't even launch properly. Wth happened with this patch???
The game was running silky and smooth as hell by the time WWII busted out, no problem. Even battled on separate fronts. But for some obscure unknown reason at exactly 1943, it just slowed down to trash. And I don't mean VIA FPS necessarily. In the sense of 5x speed feels and looks like 1x speed. As if to indicate that your CPU is having an aneurysm or something.
((UPDATE: FIX FOUND)) Bump this so others can see this fix. Follow me step by step.
#1: Launch the game through Steam. The PDX Launcher should pop up by default. At this step, DO NOT LAUNCH THE GAME. Look at the bottom left to see if the PDX Launcher is spinning, indicating it's downloading an update. (Why it's not done through steam automatically is beyond me...) It'll tell you once it's done downloading, and will ask you restart the game. Do that. It'll bring up the launcher again.
#2: Once again, don't launch the game. Top left, click on "Game Settings". Under the graphics category, look for the "Renderer" area. By default, the game runs DirectX11, but for some retarded reason, it may have reverted back to DirectX9. Select DX11.
#3: Make sure you're set to Fullscreen as well, and then just launch the game. This will fix your ability to just get back into the main screen of the game.
#4: Your visuals may seem a bit wompy, so just Alt-Tab once out, and back into the game, and you're resolution scale should fix itself. You can then launch back into your save game.
((NOTE)): This does fix the laggy slow issue getting back into your game, however it's not a "perfect" fix, as it does seem a bit slow still. Otherwise, it's "playable" in this sense, and does fix the slowing to a crawl issue.
Spread the Word!!!
Unfortunately this only helped for 3 or 4 in game days and then it slowed down again.
♥♥♥♥, sorry to hear that man. On my end thankfully, it's kept going and I'm playing at the moment. You may have to also Validate your game files, and or reinstall the game. I did those as well, but wasn't sure if it had any impact on my troubleshooting.
