Promoting to Field Marshal
Promoting a general to field marshal means all the special abilities vanish. However, would be better if there were a chance they would vanish, so that some field marshals would retain a few specials.

This makes promotion unpredictable, a gamble, much like it was throughout history, where some leaders kept their skill and some were promoted to their absolute limits of questionable competence (i.e., Hood in the Civil War is a great example, although non-WW2).

Hmm its hard to compare the abilities of generals with those of Field marshals, also this is not as realevant anymore with the coming update as it changes the whole mechanic. But maybe connecting some abilities of generals wit hsome of the field marshals ones and give them a 20% chance to get those might be good yeah.

Two quick points:

1) Generals and field marshals have two different sets of traits they can have.

2) If you watched the world war wednesday video earlier today, you'd know that there are pretty significant changes regarding leaders coming in the next patch.

I'm really looking forward to the leadership changes. As mentioned above, though, generals and field marshals have separate traits.

I think generals have the overall superior traits, since they're limited based on the number of divisions under their command. General traits are also very specific - attack/defence bonuses on specific terrain, for example

Field marshals have the weaker traits but they can affect more units overall.
