cross play?

i have game pass ultimate and have just downloaded HOI4 on my pc, my friend has it through steam and we want to play cross play, i know its possible because the steam page says it is, but how do you do it? we've spent at least an hour exhausting every method at least twice

multiplayer and then start a server
and ur friend sends you the id and u find the game

we tried that, but it could never be found, i was under the impression that we couldnt because the ID's are so different

idk what the HOI multiplayer hosting is like, but he might need to port forward whatever the games ports are for you to be able to see the server. (applies to my other games experience and NOT this game)

one person hosts a game normally. there will be an option to copy your game ID. send the ID to your friend, who then can join the game directly using the ID.

btw, heres some info for multiplayer: only the host can control the speed. if the game starts to lag, reduce your graphics. (graphics not connection is normally what causes hoi4 lag). Any DLC the host has will be the DLC for all players in game.

thanks for the mp info, but as for the way to get a match started, that's what we did, but when we tried to join each other automatically said "connection timed out", but there is nothing wrong with our internet connections, and we can join other randoms we see, but not each other, it doesnt make any sense since it seems to work for everybody else, is there maybe some sort of setting we need to enable or what?

not sure. try making sure your game versions are the same, and none of you have mods enabled. if that doesnt work, maybe even re-installing. otherwise, look for other forum posts on the same topic to see if anyone solved the same problem.

Wrost case scenario, contact paradox support? not sure if they even do MP support but you never know.

no, i didnt, i actually forgot about this lol, there is no cross play it seems

The issue lies in the steam multiplayer version idk why paradox hasnt updated the multiplayer in steam yet, the ids are also very differently.

Crossplay works, steam users just need to launch the "Nakama MP" variation.
