-Use a different naval designer
What's the composition of your fleet? Which naval designer did you choose?
Not 100% but I'm pretty sure some advisers can give naval range buffs too.
what kinda ships?
6 carriers
2battlecruisers
5 heavy cruisers
40 DS.
i have made my DS for anti submarines and to have light damage and my other ships to have alot of fire power to support my carriers.
but i lack range and i dont really know what increases it in the naval designer
In short, some types of ships have better ranges than others, and the more advanced they are the better. 1944 Submarines have the best at ~6000 km range. Carriers/Battleships have good range but are expensive and take a long time to make. Cruisers are also okay, if you're late enough in the research.
Classic tactics apply: spam subs. You're Japan, so your torpedos have some nice buffs if you do the Long Lance. You can also do Carriers + Cruisers.
Yokosuka Naval Arsenal, the "Pacific Fleet Designer" also gives big buffs to range (basically 25% to everything you research).
You individual task forces are limited in range as long as you keep short range vessels in them.
Though dropping all of your escorts might not be the best idea sometimes it's the only way. The Chinese invasion of the US, even with the occupation of Hawaii, needed a quite disproportionate number of capital ships to reach the US West coast.
