Don't worry it works fine, use mods if you feel the ai is not good enough and also if you are not sure wait for a sale/watch some videos on the game.

Definately worth it, I'm having a lot of fun on it, I have like 300 hours and only bought it 3 months ago, I really enjoy it, and tbh vanilla is decent enough. Otherwise if you ever feel bored there are so many exellent mods to use. Basically just go and buy it ;)

Mods don't fix the AI - PDS has often stated this themselves on their Paradox Plaza forum. Mods like Expert AI can help the AI be less dumb but still you have lack of basic defense against naval invasions, etc.

Wait until WtT is out to see if any significant improvements were made - not likely given dev diaries just discuss new stuff

Maybe try Hoi3? It's only $3.50 at the moment and plays much better than Hoi4

Hoi3 is fun, if spreadsheets are your thing. Transports awkward to use too. It is complex however

Darkest Hour hardly ever crashes, it's much easier to get into, and it's available for about £1. Best of all, it's still getting updates - FREE updates. As they should be.

But HOI4 is nice too, you can spend £50 to watch troops being shuffled around to Vladivostok, or being sent through enemy waters to test their buoyancy. And while you can't finish many games due to intolerably low FPS, at least you can look forward to more overpriced DLC.

I saw some reviews saying Darkest Hour had issues with Windows 10. Has this been fixed?
