HOI 4 vs HOI 3
Hello there!

So i see visuals are better, but thats not really important thing for game like this one.

Really important question is how complex HOI4 is if compared to HOI3.

Is it more complex and more detailed, a real development? Or maybe its just the same good game but with better vusuals and new UI, like a good redesign? Or maybe its a much more casual game, so stupid kids will be able to play it as well (which as an economist and veteran gamer, Im afraid it is)?

I have a bad feelings looking at some screenshots....

Oh, and I totally realize that game is probably lacks 75% of content and planned features at this stage, thats not a question for me ;) I just want to understand, should I buy HOI3 and forget about HOI4 forever? Or I really should try HOI4 in 2020?

Thanks!

The first step would be to read some of the 100's of threads with the same question. Both here and on the Paradox website. That is what I suggest. Good luck.

Try HOI4 now, see if you like it, and then go to HOI3 while HOI4 is being finished. HOI3 is infinitely more complicated but as someone working on a European History major with a long history of strategy and management gaming, HOI3 is honestly a little too complicated to get into in any decent amount of time. HOI4 is a fun game, but it's definitely more of a game than HOI3. The multiplayer is great, it's a blast if you find a community of mature mates to play it with (even the kids that've snuck into the community aren't that awful, played Germany with one of them as Italy and he did fine and wasn't obnoxious.)

If you want to play a 20 hour campaign in which you roleplay as your country of choice choosing as one of the 7 countries that actually mattered (see: HOI4's gross inflation of the power projection of minor countries) play HOI3. If you want more of a sandbox game, play HOI4 which will soon be getting more features.

There is no thread like that at 3 first pages. There is no topic on top where developer directly provides a detailed answer to my question (something I would expect for a sequel) .

Instead of just avoiding my topic, you wasted your time to write your suggestion instead of answering my simple question with couple of words. Your irrelevant input is not useful for me. Good luck.

Paradox devs do not answer anything here. You need to post on Paradox website for them to notice.

I can already tell you will be better off getting HOI IV as you are not even interested in putting in a little effort to find your answer. Get IV.

To start HOI 2 was an improvement on HOI 1, and HOI 3 improved on HOI 2.
HOI 4 is a different game, and should have had a diferent name.

HOI 4 right now is only really a multi-player game.
It has a very broken AI that does not work and is non-competitive.
It is prone to doing really stupid things.

HOI 3 has a better AI for solo play, it is not as fancy but the holes are also smaller, so it will make you work harder.

HOI 4 plays a lot faster since they dumbed down the combat. Disadvantage of this is it is hard to measure the actual effect of tech upgrades. You could tell this HOI 3.

HOI 3 was designed to be historical, so US production is huge, you have to go take resources as Japan & Germany. HOI 4 has a far more balanced resource distribution and industry model. All countries also have the same tech tree in HOI 4, which sucks.

So, HOI 3 is a longer more complicated, historical simulation of the global war in WWII.
Where HOI 4 is more of a multi-player WWII based Civilization.

You might have used the search function instead of just looking at the first 3 pages here.

It's kind of a moot point now since people have already answered your questions, but GIJoe isn't wrong, there have been dozens if not hundreds of threads about this already and they all read very similarly.

If you want developer replies you'll probably have to frequent the Paradox forums as they very rarely, if ever, participate here.

Thank you for your time, my friends! Most useful answers here! Ill invest in HOI3 then. Price is most reasonable now and this game is my boat!
